ENCTS on Greenline Route 755

Hello, does anyone know the validity of a Herts disabled ENCTS bus pass on the Greenline 755 Luton to London route? Looking online suggests its an £8 discounted fare but I'm getting mixed responses.

Their website says this about an over 60s ENCTS pass, I would assume the same applies for a disabled one:

Your concessionary bus pass is valid for free travel when boarding in Hertfordshire or London. It is not valid for free journeys from Luton or Luton Airport and a discounted single ticket must be purchased."

The only stop in Herts on the 755/757 is at Bricket Wood, so unless travelling from there, the answer would appear to be 'no'.

I'm not clear what you mean here. Like all ENCTS passes, Hertfordshire ENCTS passes are valid for the whole of England unless specified otherwise. In this case it is specified otherwise.

Yes, it's commonly the case that the time restriction element is removed for "in-boundary" passes, or there's a discretionary increase in entitlements for them, such as £10 per year to travel on trains and trams in Greater Manchester or free tram travel for Blackpool and Wyre passes.

This doesn't change the basic rules that some services are not included in the provision.

I understand, only asking as the website states over-60s passes are valid but no mention of disabled passes.

The information in post 2 suggests that this might not be the case. However I definitely agree it should really be much clearer.

It isn't a time restriction they've quoted - it's a destination one.

It may be due to the service registration - if it's not registered as a 'local bus service' AIUI there's no obligation on the operator to accept ENCTS passes.

The point behind it stopping at Bricket Wood is so that is can be registered as a local bus service.

As it says on the Arriva website (www.arrivabus.co.uk/greenline/green-line-tickets), concessionary travel is free when boarding in London or Hertfordshire. Boarding elsewhere means a discounted fare must be paid.

In this case it is nothing to do with where you travel to, but everything to do with where you board.

The local authority where the passenger boards pays the bus operator for accepting the concessionary travel pass, regardless of which council issues the pass or where the passenger is travelling to.

It is likely that Arriva managed to reach an agreement to he reimbursed for accepting concessionary passes with both Transport for London and Hertfordshire County Council, but Luton Council did not agree therefore passengers boarding in their area have to pay a reduced fare. It’s likely that the reduced fare is a commercial incentive by Arriva and isn’t subsidised by the council.
