Providing connectivity

With the idea of the railways being for Transportation and not pure profit I was thinking of some areas that could be built/re-opened for the sake of connectivity.
I immediately think of Lincolnshire and Wales as the lines are really, really poor (also if the Heart of Wales Line hadn't been through marginal constituencies it was on the Beeching Plan as well).

Could the Welsh Highland railway be absorbed as a Narrow gauge disconnected from the Network but with tickets and connections built in with a connection from Caernarfon to Bangor to link with the Standard Gauge line to Holyhead? The Ffestiniog railway could also come under the same thing.

While that one is a long shot could an Aberystwyth to the South Wales Mainline be considered to allow the larger cities to server the Town.

This one has been done to death on these pages, with a not insignificant amount of Welsh Taxpayers’ cash chucked in the bin at looking at it. Complete non starter.

Have a look at the Restoring Your Railways projects first. Particularly look at which lines got through to the latest stages and which didn't.

Pretty much every reopening that has a campaign group applied to RYR, so it's a good indication of which lines have what level of hope.

There is a connection, it's called a bus. Spending £1bn on a railway because of a gap on a map should come very, very far down the list of priorities
