Great news another school is starting in March. Congratulations to those who have got on it! I've decided to start applying nationally while I wait for this and see what I get into first. Fingers crossed for everyone in the talent pool its not too long to wait

Double check the conditions of each TOC you apply for as most TOCs only accept applications within either 45 minutes or and hour travelling to the depot you apply for

Perhaps the establishment isn't quite as good as what they first thought.

It’s not Nexus which is causing fleet availability really (maybe lack of drivers but there’s a lot of driver training going on at the moment). I can’t really go into details but the transition from one fleet to another completely different and modern fleet is extremely extremely challenging for a lot of reasons.

I completely understand the difference in traction training as I work for west midlands trains at the moment. I was meaning establishment within the amount of current driver's and the numbers that are needed. Hopefully the training continues and the transition to the new trains is smooth

I think 5hunter is more referring to the maintenance issues around the new fleet/depot rather than the driver training.

I've already spoken to 2 who are providing accommodation for the training as its elsewhere around the country but the job is based locally. I'm lucky to have 2 locations in the country I can apply to due to family

Some tocs provide accomodation as the training may not be in the area that the depot you apply for is based. So for example I work for west midlands trains at the moment and the majority of the training is done in Birmingham. However London northwestern railways is also part of that company and people based in say London or Crewe would still need to do the training in Birmingham. If you have a local address it is a bonus. I did ask northern if I could apply for their jobs and they said no as I currently live in rugby. However nexus said it was ok. Good luck buddy

Don't know how frowned upon it is to share info on here once we've started tbh, hence why I went quiet since starting.

I will say I'm 7 weeks in now and it's very intense, the information comes at you thick and fast, you will spend a lot of free time revising.

That being said everyone on my course is great as are the staff which makes it all very enjoyable.

Yeah I probably wouldn't say too much but I'm glad you're enjoying it. Very jealous.

By reading the email that was sent in seems like they will use people in the talent pool before advertising again. Well that's what I read from it

Aye I think so too but I was thinking is the plan to get everyone trained in 2 years or has that been extended with the 12 month wait.

Think I'm in the same boat as you buddy. Good sign that the first train has been on the network testing today.

No updates buddy. It was the email that was in December advising no training school for 12 months

Canteen talk is of a small chance of one small school next year due to a few trainees failing, but only on the new trains.

The other talk is people worrying about redundancies due to the large number of drivers.

When I spoke to HR, they advised I was guaranteed to start by end of next year.
Hopefully still true.

Was a few months ago and she said something along the lines of 30 people left and everyone will start by end of next year.

That's not good is it. Perhaps an opportunity will come in the near future for the rest of us in the talent pool.
