Marsden Platform 3 isn't seeing any services at the moment, until Northern see fit to reinstate the services they dropped during the pandemic.
Northern lost the route before the pandemic, unless you mean the morning Leeds service that started from there? (If that still exists)

Mirfield platform 2 always comes up in these lists, being on the Up Huddersfield/Fast it doesn't normally see any scheduled stops, though it can do during disruption. A few years ago a planning error meant all the stoppers that use platform 3 were showing booked to use platform 2 though. Once the line's restored to 4 track through there though it'll see a whole lot more when it becomes the Up Slow.
Up until Covid, there was a daily call around 18:50 on a Northern Leeds to Wigan service.

Back before TPE took over the stoppers, P3 was used for all (or almost all) westbound services. Going back further to the 1990s it was also used for the Sunday services which terminated there and turned back (as these were extensions of the Leeds to Huddersfield stoppers). At the time there were no Sunday services westbound, as the Mon-Sat service was the First North Western Manchester Victoria to Wakefield Westgate service which didn't run on Sundays.

What is it about the number 7!
Rugby bay Platform 3 is only used for 1 or 2 trains a day ... now I seem to recall that USED to be Platform 7 before the station was remodeled (Platform 8 being at the Eastern End of Platform 1 once you got past the substation)

Does anything use Platform 2c at Sheffield? It was derelict and unused/loved in my spotting days in the 80s.

Some Northern trains to Manchester and the evening EMR Man Picc terminator 1M82. It's used for stabling on occasion too.

I suspect that Kentish Town platform 4 isn't used. From what I see when trains terminate at St Pancras high level they don't call at Kentish Town at all. Platform 3 is used for terminating services.

Also, the platforms at the fast line at the intermediate stations between West Hampstead and St Albans aren't used under normal circumstances, but they can be used when the slow lines are closed.

Platform 4 at Kentish Town only has access to/from the high level platforms at St Pancras. Normally the Sunday morning services to/from St Pancras high level which call at Kentish use platform 3

The fast line platforms get used during engineering works, especially on a Sunday morning when it's a 2 track timetable in operation. Similar to other stations on 4 track sections of railway (Great Western, WCML, Shenfield etc)

Most Hope Valley Northern locals are now 3-car Class 195s. Platform 2c only takes two cars.

The trains now reverse ‘all over place’, Platform 1B (at the north end of Sheffield) being quite ‘unsettling’.

In what sense?
Because most departures from 1b go to places like Cleethorpes, Leeds and Newcastle, i.e. north east rather than north west.

(The 1a end is only clear for a 2-car without fouling the crossover.)

Are all 3 platforms at Portrush (in northern Ireland) used station only has one train and hour for most of the day
Platforms 2 & 3 at Portrush are intended for extra trains eg the Portrush Flyer steam excursions that used to run each summer. However the signaling no longer allows more than 1 train on the branch at any time. So they are never used. Coleraine box was closed some years back and since then Portrush box is really just a ground frame. Pity.

Platform 2 at Twickenham, a London-facing bay, has had the track relaid, and crossovers now permit direct running into it from the down line, albeit with a few hundred yards of wrong-line running on the up fast and up slow, but I don't think it's been used much, if at all. The recent rebuilding of the station buildings has allowed space at the country end for the bay to become a through line, but, seeing how little the bay is used, I doubt if it will become a through line for the foreseeable future.
There is a temporary fence along the platform edge which would prevent any usage. In the recent resignalling a new signal was placed at the end of the platforn so obviously there was some intention to reuse it.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

Platform 8 at Clapham Junction is not used by services stopping there because of the stepping distances, so all the stopping trains on the UP Main into Waterloo use platform 7, but trains not scheduled to stop at Clapham Junction just go past platform 8.

In the am peak no UP Main services stop at Clapham Junction so pre-COVID it was 25 trains per hour passing it, it is now down to just 21 tph.

Therefore I would suggest that this is the busiest platform never used to allow passengers on and off trains.

Believe it's a long term aim to bring the bay back into use, but only as a bay.

Platform 8 is used in emergencies or during heavy disruption if platform 7 is unavailable.

Plymouth has a number of bay platforms, some of which are ex-Royal Mail depots iirc. I'm not sure how frequently these are used, or if more than one of them is even signalled for passenger services.

As far as I understand it the signalling will allow it, but Portrush has to be switched in, which is sensible given the normal traffic levels really.

If I'm not mistaken, Portrush was relegated to ground frame status with the recent resignalling (which made the branch OTW without train staff). If they need more than one train on the branch at once, they work the single line by pilotman instead.

I have to say, it sounds rather dodgy to me, a scheme that relies on degraded working to operate planned (albeit infrequent) additional services.

Yeah, that does sound a bit questionable if that's right. Pity the money didn't extend to a token machine...

There was a token machine at Portrush. Problem is there isn’t one at Coleraine any more (or anywhere else on the network) to exchange it with. Coleraine Box closed and the signals in that area are all controlled remotely from Belfast now.
