I am on this train, I don't suppose anyone can give any insight into what is going on? Left Glasgow Central on time but was re-routed via Hamilton and now waiting outside Motherwell. Nobody onbard sure what is going on and Network Rail just saying 'delayed.

Can anyone give any idea what is happening? Guess there must have been an incident somewhere.

Looks like something wrong with 0533 Glasgow Central to Euston that’s not made Motherwell yet and was blocking the route hence the diversion. It is now on the move though some 3 hours late

For what it's worth, the LNER 0648 Glasgow Central-King's Cross was cancelled between Glasgow and Edinburgh "due to a person hit by a train".
But the 0745 TPE GLC-Preston, which runs via Whifflet and Wishaw, was 17 down at Carstairs and ahead of the Euston, but appears to have been regulated there.

Lines have reopened, but Avanti are still warning of disruption.

From Avanti Twitter at 08:59
Following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Glasgow Central and Motherwell all lines have now reopened. Services are still subject to residual delays, alterations and cancellations. Please continue to check before

Waiting outside Motherwell waiting for the local service to vacate platform 4, on time, that you need in order to pass through.

By way of update...

The delayed 0736 Avanti train Southbound from Glasgow Central eventually arrived London Euston at around 1311, some 58 minutes down.

Sadly, the person reported as having been hit by a train in the Uddingston area just before 6.00 a.m. today is said to have died at the scene.

Brief extract of story...
Transport officers and paramedics responded to a report of a casualty on the train line near Uddingston shortly before 6 a.m. on Monday.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The railway line in the Uddingston area was subsequently reported as having been reopened at or around 9.00 a.m.

I was on this train (1M08) too and am sure I heard the Train Manager announcing, both before departure and en route, that the train was being diverted due to a fatality. Perhaps the PA was not working or audible in all coaches?

The additional delay outside Motherwell was annoying, but to have avoided it would have meant holding the Dalmuir-Motherwell train (2C12) at Rutherglen East Junction, which perhaps no-one thought to do, or did but believed the delay to the local to be too great.

I should add; There was additional delay to 1M08 between Quintinshill and Carlisle Kingmoor, which the Train Manager also announced, this being due to a slow running Transpennine service ahead, however watching the trains on the Open Train Times map it looked more as if there was a signal or track circuit failure causing that delay.

Must have missed it - I heard the announcement in transit but not before departure- might have been before I boarded. All credit to him and the post Preston manager for the advice they were giving...although I do wonder how many people would opt to get off a train for a later one. Also, no real excuse for lack of First Class catering post Warrington either. Delay repay will go in tomorrow.

A bad day for me today - I missed my original GWR Bristol connection and the train I ended up getting got delayed by a freight train.

Out of curiosity, how come the service didn’t call at Motherwell despite passing through?

Do Avanti do what LNER do, where you can donate delay repay to CALM, which is a leading charity dealing with attempting to prevent suicide, instead of keeping it for yourself after a tragic incident like this?

Its a good question. We crawled through Motherwell station quite slowly so could easily have stopped...but didn't.

As much as your efforts are laudable, assuming you do this yourself, but people are entitled to do as they please with delay repay. Given the money goes from NR to Avanti, there's no point Avanti keeping it.

I do, do it actually, and I never suggested anyone had to do anything with delay repay that they do not wish to do so.
It was a simple question asking if Avanti did such a scheme.

Do you know if they do so, as you didn’t seem to answer my question?

It is a good question, I can only think that Pendolinos are not cleared to stop at Motherwell Platform 4, being too long perhaps, or some other reason.

It would appear they don't, but I have not logged in to claim.

I don't recall it being there when I filed my latest claim.

Your assumption is correct. Pendos not cleared for stopping at platform 4.

2C12 passed through Rutherglen East Jn at 07:38; 1M08 passed the junction at 07:45.
The Signaller wouldn't have been looking that far ahead, or given any consideration to events at Motherwell/Uddingston due to it being different Signalling areas.

2C12 "could" have been held for 1M08, which would have provided a vacant platform for 1M08 to pass straight through at Motherwell.
In the event 1M08 followed 2C12 to Motherwell and then had to wait for 2C12 to change ends and form 2F11 0817 Motherwell - Dalmuir.
Reversing the order would have been much easier for 1M08, 2C12 would be 10 minutes late at Motherwell but still on time for its next working.

However, the Control Centre environment doesn't allow for such calm thorough decisions when 1M08/2C12 is just one relatively minor decision in such a busy place.

I know! I spent most of my career in the Control Centre responsible for such decisions, including some years on the very section involved yesterday, which is why IMHO it was an unfortunate but unavoidable issue.

I think I've worked out who you are (MM?) and we did in fact work together for 4 years across the TOC/NR divide. (DO).

I was interested to see that 1M73 (TPE 0745 Glasgow-Preston) overtook 1M08 as it went, as normal, via Whifflet and Wishaw to Law Jn.
Is there any reason 1M08 could not have used that route?

Traincrew might not sign the route. Sectional appendix doesn't list whether 390s are cleared to run that way either. It's not a move I've seen one do before.

I don't think Class 390s are cleared for the Rutherglen and Coatbridge (R&C) route. The question has frequently come up ever since the line was electrified.
