It might have been 4 day week, it was a while ago now and I was about to do my CBI so had other stuff going through my head while looking at it.
Yeah that’s fair enough

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

Wolverhampton is 5 day weeks with with every 5th week off. So averaged out over 5 weeks it is 4 per week (the 5th day adds up to the 5th week off) then committed Sundays as extra outside the working week
Thanks Emma

Something I've been meaning to ask, but I am told by the OPC that should I apply again after my six month period that I will only have to sit the tests I didn't succeed. Does that also mean that I won't have to do the things such as the Situational Judgement Test or initial questionnaire after an application is submitted again or does the skip only apply to the in-person psychometrics?

You'll still need to do pre-assessment tests as they don't stay on your record and aren't recorded (to my knowledge)

You'll only just not sit your actual psychometrics as they stay on your record for up to 5 years

Does this include the Situational Judgement Test and Visual Search Exercise? Because as far as I'm aware these were requirements for Avanti's Enhanced standards but I could be wrong about that.

Passing the psychometrics doesn't guarantee you anything. If you applied to a TOC/FOC you would still need to go through whatever application process they had.

Things to remember/bear in mind :
  • Each TOC has their own tests in addition to the standard Psychometrics
  • Standard / Enhanced pass requirements
  • TOCs have been known to make you resit all the tests again
  • The 6 month rule when reapplying
  • The 5yrs validity is not the same for all TOCs and is a common misunderstanding

The general consensus is to wait 6 months then reapply.

As far as I'm aware you'd still need to do them again as although they are required they don't hold any records for them.

Plus if you applied for another TOC/FOC who used SJT/M7/VSE you'd still need to pass them again before you go through to skipping your psych's

And as mentioned the 5 year rule is the maximum. Some TOCs can you make you resit them all or some have a lot shorter times other than 5 years.

Really.. that’s a lot of days for 35 hours a week. I thought they were 9hr shifts spread over 4 days a week usually. But different TOCs then just have different start and finish times and stuff
Its not a fixed 35 hour week I dont think, it normally an average of 35 over the course of the roster i believe so some weeks will be more some will be less.

Yeah I’ve had a look at a block of shifts that someone posted the link for here. It was good to get an idea because I had no clue of how it was structured

Well that's kind of unfortunate because I really didn't enjoy those tests, but seeing as I have passed them once it's not as daunting as it would be last time at least. Besides which my heart wasn't set solely on Avanti, so chances are if I went for another TOC then I would have to do some form of application tests anyway. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Passed the stage 2 computer. Waiting for result of CBI interview now.

Was listening to random music on way down. One song was Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones. Doing the vigilance test and my mind started saying "I see a grey square and I want it turning black" to the music :D

Does it truly turn black ? I’ve heard people say it sometimes slowly changes colour and sometimes it’s barely noticeable.

It may have the effect of seeming darker or slowly changing colour over time, but it is most definitely noticeable when it changes actually colour.

I believe he said he applied from the previous Wolverhampton depot advert which was in early 2022. So he isn't part of "this" recruitment.
Hi, yeah just to confirm I applied for the role on 17/01/2022, and found out today I’m in. So hopefully for you guys it’s not a year wait!

Wow, excellent news well done. How did the DMI interview go? How long did you have to wait till you found out you passed?

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

Anyone else heard back about DMI as of yet? Sat my Stage 2 on the 13th December but nothing at the moment
Apart from the two that mentioned it earlier in the week, don't think anyone else has been invited.

I'm wondering, do you think they're going through the application form now, checking the distance from depot, qualifications etc or would that have been done before putting you through to the OPC?

Just caught up on a lot of posts about DMI’s;

It did feel informal. Was with a driver manager and a Rom - regional operations manager?

Was on Microsoft teams, don’t let that stop you getting in the virtual waiting room earlier than you would for a standard in person interview though and still make an effort with attire.

Research Avanti, research NTS and the survey the OPC did regarding them. Top 6 are important. There will be a scenario based question. Common sense, use knowledge of the non technical skills in the answers. Most important question though ‘why do you want to be a train driver?’

Hope this helps and good luck everyone!

Very helpful actually thank you. You’re the only person to have given any details. I Really appreciate it, thanks. Hopefully the rest of us get dates sometime soon

I'd have thought they'd have checked all the distances etc before paying for you to do psychometrics? Isn't that what the sift is for?

That's what I would have thought, but I haven't seen anyone who got rejected from the application form. Makes me wonder did they just put everyone through and only now sifting, once they've whittled the numbers down?

Congrats! So you passed the DMI!
Did they give you any info on a prospective course start date?

I just think its best to be patient. Theyre probably just busy with the logistics of it all, and bear in mind they recruited for a number of Trainers and Assessors which they may be prioritising ahead of the Trainee Drivers maybe?
Also the MMI/CBI (from what I've heard) is scored, so that could be a factor? Higher scores prioritised as they come in etc..

I agree, I think anyone who has got to this stage will get a DMI. They wouldn't waste thousands of pounds putting people through psychometrics if they were to far away to take on the position.

I’m not sure if this is true or not, but the assessor at my stage 2 said that Avanti aren’t able to see how you scored, they only get told that you met the required standard.

I'd assume so as all scores are stored by OPC and conducted by the OPC, they'd just inform avanti who's passed and who's failed I'd assume.

DMI is the first part where avanti themselves do the interview.

I was told at one of my dmi by a driver manager that he had seen my scores. Not Avanti though.

DMIs have been awfully quiet. Only 3 people or so have said they have been contacted about it this far and one of them wasn’t even from this recruitment batch. Nobody else heard anything ?

I wouldn’t worry. These things can take a while, so I’m sure they will get in touch when they need to
