I noticed that, means the train before hand (21:XX arrival into Piccadilly) needs to be a pair of units as it splits at Piccadilly to form both the 21:30 & 22:30 services. Which tonight seems didn't happen with the 21:30 cancelled.
I presume the ECS goes via Warrington to get route knowledge (especially for Warrington - Crewe) in case they need to get sent that way (instead of TfW throwing in the towel and terminating at Crewe as what normally happens when the line towards Stockport is closed).
Did GC get round to fitting plug sockets in the buffet coach or is that a socket free zone?
The same happens with the other set which arrives at 20:15, that returns empty too so the 19:15 and 21:15 unit arrivals are pairs which then split with 1 pair forming 19:30 and 20:30 amd the other doing the last 2 departures.
The route the ecs takes is different on different days. Whichever route the evening working takes is matched next morning ie Monday night it goes via Warrington so Tuesday mornings go via Warrington, Fri night is via Styal so Saturday morning back is via Styal, this does maintain route knowledge but also supposedly keeps the sets in the right formation, although there's already a mix.
No power points in the buffet, was looked at but there are power issues supplying every electrical circuit plus power sockets in there.
