London Overground recorded announcement that customers should change for international trains as we drew into Stratford last night.
Do they know something we don't or is that wishful thinking

Well you change there for Stratford International and make your way to St Pancras 6 minutes away to board a Eurostar…..

I expect somewhere on the TfL estate there is still a sign or two for London Airport (remember that? With those great tarpaulin tents and no 'Border Force', only gnomes from the Home Department, to politely welcome you back to the country?) For TfL, with its history going back 160 years, the heady days of the Eastern CTRL approach seem as though they were only yesterday....

IF any forgotten/overlooked old announcement not valid anymore would get its very own hilaric and endless amusing comments-this forum could probably be tripled in size.
In Germany-and a few KMs in NL the VIAS trains still proudly announce to be Abellio!
German printed timetables etc always had some kind of disclaimer: in the big flurry of data there is always the chance we have forgotten something.

IIRC, Stratford International was built with all the necessary space for international ticketing and check-in, security and waiting, but it was never used.

I thought I remembered a thread on this or another forum where, on an open day, it was possible to see inside. Maybe I imagined it? Has anyone got any photographs of what would have become the international departure lounge?

I did pose the thought in some other thread that if international trains from London were to be expanded seriously in any way then Stratford International's international bit might have to be opened to provide the space for the border control facilities that are apparently so constrained at St Pancras. After all, it's a one-stop hop direct from there on Southeastern services.

Doesn't the Waterloo & City line still advise passengers to alight at Waterloo for International rail services

Yes indeed it still does. I was on it just a couple of weeks ago it was still the same Emma Clarke announcement telling people to change for international rail services. I am amazed that TFL have not bothered to sort this out after over fifteen years.

Saying that lots of stuff on the LU network is very out of date. There are still multiple references to "British Rail" at many stations. Some stations still have National Rail symbols at Moor Park on the maps. There is at least one map at a station that still has the old East London Line on it. There is at least one map that still has the line to Ongar on it. So in general TFL are not the best when it comes to updating things.

Stratford and Ebbsfleet and Ashford really need to have the "International" removed from their names. It is very misleading. None of these stations will probably ever have international trains again.

Unless plans have changed, Ebbsfleet and Ashford are to have their international services resumed in 2024.

Hugely unlikely to happen, even for Stratford. Renaming them officially would be a huge admission of failure and minor political suicide.

Even though Stratford has never seen international service it’s not something the media has properly picked up on, beyond a minor article appearing every now and then. And then the government replies saying the facilities are there. Changing the name is a hugely public move that will attract media attention, and will also be an admission it will never see international service.

NR also recently claimed it was too expensive to change the name of Colchester Town station, a change which would have a material benefit in recognising the city’s status. To change the International stations name after this, a change with no benefit, would be a farce that I’m sure the papers would pick up on.

Slightly OT. Why does Birmingham International carry the name it does? Why not Birmingham Airport?
I have always wondered this too. It seems crazy that a major airport station does not have airport in its name. Birmingham Airport would be a far more sensible name.
