I don't want to sound negative but if you've not even done the first round of assessments yet you're probably out of this round of recruitment.

I applied for XC in January and my application still says in progress but they're recruiting again from last month for the same locations which means I'm not going to hear anything.
Yea I know, i was being sarcastic, wouldn't had minded an email off them letting me know

Depends on number of positions available vs number of interviewees i suppose. Supply vs Demand is a big factor.
Too much supply (interviewees), not enough demand (vacancies), chances are harder.
Too little supply, too much demand, chances are easier.

Even though Avanti have to recruit desperately, its likely they are waiting to see how much 'supply' they have, before making any sudden moves.
From what I know (and I stand to be corrected), the final Stage 2 batch is 20th January.

In regards to leniency you mentioned, that cant be guessed as thats discretionary and that could apply to whatever the company need at the time, and not just specific to addressing staff shortages (I.e more females, more BAME, more apprentices, more older, more younger, more LGBTQ etc can also be considered with leniency or preference)
Yep, that all seems fairly reasonable suggestions. I hate the unknown and secrecy of it all  like how many posts are available and things like that!

So I got my feedback from the OPC this week regarding my CBI. I was told they score you on the 5 questions + verbal communication throughout the interview. I unfortunately failed on just one question  and I’m fairly certain in which bit it was that I may have not met the required score.
Although I felt pretty gutted about getting all the way to that point to fail on just one question I’m also taking huge confidence knowing that I can brush up on that question and then go again and breeze the next interview I do :)
It’ll be an MMI that I do next time though as I start my new job with freightliner next week so I’m going to stay with them as a driver!
Good luck to you all with the DMI

So you haven't done the mmi yet with freightliner? I take it the new job isn't a trainee driver?

Sorry to hear that - it does give you something to gauge it against though. When I sat my last CBI in 2013 I thought I'd done very badly and wasn't looking forward to the feedback. It turns out, like yourself, I failed on just the one question. Which, to turn it around, means I passed four questions plus the verbal and written communication!

See this as an indicator of how close you were to passing and you'll breeze the next one 8-)

No, not yet. I’ll have a 6 month wait now before I can apply anyway. I’m going in as a shunter initially and then once the time has lapsed and a driver job comes up I’ll apply for it then and go straight to MMI.

Exactly mate! 8-) That’s what I keep telling myself.. I also spent too much worrying about the tests and did little to no prep for the interview so this time I can fully focus on just that aspect, learn from my mistakes & hopefully breeze the next interview:smile:

Hi All,

I read on here that the ATAVT test has images from roads in the USA. Can anyone confirm this?

Unsure whether it was USA, but it definitely wasn’t just UK.

I don’t think it makes any difference where they are, it sounds as though you’re overthinking it. It’s not really one you can prepare for, just be calm on the day.

I was hoping my 390th message would be good news, but after sitting the second stage assessments today I'm afraid it's the end of the line for me on this recruitment drive. I passed the ATAVT and 2-Hand Co-Ordination Tests, but I failed the WAFT Vigilance test, and what's worse is that I'm definitely sure it was because of a trigger happy finger. I am very confident in my reaction times and getting all the dark squares, but for some reason I randomly pressed the button several times throughout the test and logged too many errors. In hindsight I should've kept my hand off the button and only touched it when I intended to press it. Regardless, gutted is an absolute understatement. :(
The exact same thing happened to me. Was gutted to the extent that I avoided the forum until now. I wonder when the next round will come up and I hope to pass it next time! Chin up mate, you did great to get this far.

I over thought the ATAVT test and was adamant I failed it, but somehow I passed. Don't over think it, follow what you're told and try to stay calm. You'll be able to control moving between photos so you can take a breather after each question.

Yeah, I wanted to do the same to be honest. I am not optimistic about any new trainee train driver vacancies at Avanti popping up for Liverpool anytime soon but there's always a chance at least. Plus I've also got options with TPE, Northern, and possibly Merseyrail (though I'm not sure they recruit drivers externally). Next time though my definite strategy is keep my finger off the button unless I intend to press it.

Does anyone know what the pass or fail rate is for the DMI? Im curios to know if it’s harder than the CBI.. I’d have thought for those who make it that far have a fairly good chance of being offered a position, or am I wrong?

Do people think there may be a slight leniency at DMI given Avanti’s current position?
I’ve got a friend who’s already a driver for Avanti and he’s convinced myself that at the DMI, you’ve got to mess up quite some bit to not get a positive outcome. I had my DMI last week so he could be saying it just to ease my concerns lol. He has said with the turmoil though if anything, these strikes have highlighted the massive need for drivers, especially at Wolves, where I’ve applied for. They did say to me that they have course start dates in March, April and May though, so think they are recruiting quite a lot.

Fingers crossed.

Avanti may be recruiting again in March apparently
Will people who have not been successful in December be able to apply in March though? I mean considering how long the process is, it will probably be 6 months by the time you make it to assessment scented stage I guess.

This round of recruitment was relatively quick as far as I know. The application came up on October 2nd and the first psychometric in-person tests (the paper ones) for me were on the 30th November, so that's almost two months for me. I'm told this is relatively quick and that some operators take months to have the first tests, but I'll have to see. Regardless I'll probably still apply again anyway. The worse they can tell me is "no sorry, not been long enough" and as far as I know it doesn't reset the six months and I don't get penalised for it (although if I'm wrong on that then I will definitely need to be corrected).

The 6 months start from whatever stage you were unsuccessful at.

How did you think it went? How long did it last? Good luck to you.

Is anybody else still waiting for their stage 2?

Mine got pulled on the 5th due to staff sickness and I've not heard anything from them since the email on the 3rd about rescheduling?

Just had my results back after sitting the Computer Tests and CBI on the 4th, I "did not meet the required standard" from the CBI. I don't know if this counts as a life or not, just waiting for a phone call to get my feedback.

Best of luck to everyone else! :)

I believe it will only count as a life for companies that use CBI (which isn’t many). Most use MMI. There seems to be mixed opinions on this but that is my understanding as I have emailed the OPC and they confirmed. You would have to wait 6 months as well before applying for another company regardless of which testing they use I think as well.

It is a life lost but only for the CBI which only a couple other TOC's use. Being as you passed everything else it'll either be 2 more lives at the MMI or 1 life with CBI
