Northern Ireland Mileages

I’m in Northern Ireland at the moment on the bash, and wondering where the best place (if any!) to get NI Railways mileage from, as I’d like to log my moves and how far they are.

If you can get hold of a copy of the Ireland 'Quail' diagrams, that will give you everything you want. It's currently out of print with a new edition expected soon but you might find second hand copies.

Not many copies of the 2004 version currently readily available. Might need to pay c. £20 for a copy.

There's some info on mileages in the NIR Network Statement (PDF, 1.1 MB) on page 15, section 3.3.1.1, it's not very detailed but hopefully it's of some use at least for now.

Probably more expensive than most people want to pay, but if you can find a copy of Johnson's Atlas and Gazetteer of The Railways of Ireland, that includes detailed mileage tables for almost every railway in Ireland - open or closed.

I've deleted a number of posts as they were somewhat off-topic. However to address the point raised within regarding how NIR should be treated in terms of the Forum by long standing convention something which is related to NIR only should be posted in the appropriate UK Railway sub-forum as Northern Ireland is a constituent part of the UK. Something which is related to IÉ only should be posted in International Transport as Ireland is a separate country from the UK in exactly the same way that say France or Germany are. Something which relates to both NIR and IÉ (such as the Enterprise service) should also be posted in International Transport as that is an international matter not just a UK topic (see also Eurostar).

The comments by some regarding the establishment of a dedicated Railways of Ireland (or similar) sub-forum have been noted (just because a post is deleted doesn't mean we can't still see at Moderators ) and will be discussed the next time the Forum Staff have one of our regular meetings to talk about various Forum matters. If anyone has any further thoughts on how the Forum should deal with topics relating to the treatment of NIR and IÉ please do feel free to drop me a PM or use the 'Contact Us' button at the bottom of every page to send an email.

However I hope that clears up the current position and I do appreciate that it can be somewhat confusing!
