Would this be a funny April Fool joke? Surely you'd come up with something crazy or outrageous, not something perfectly plausible and quite boring?

I seem to recall one year they claimed that as part of a new sponsorship deal the Bluebell Railway was to repaint one of its Pullman cars in the colour scheme of Aston Villa football club.

What next for an April Fools Joke, Restaurants cars making a comeback ?

Maybe by this time next year we could have:

National Express fore-runner for East Coast.
If the Great Western Electrification is appoved to at least Cardiff the April fools joke could be electrification to fill in the gaps on Bath - Southampton and Oxford - Coventry.
Perhaps IC125 to be life extended until 2030.

I don't think this is an April fool for the reasons Jon has mentioned as for example last years April fool was the installation of water troughs for the Bristolian which ran last year.

Correct me if i'm wrong but don't network rail charge by axle load on the track?

I cannot see anyone taking on units that cost them more to run as nol sets are all articulated. Perhaps why there are no other articulated designs running in britain.

Wibble surely not! I wouldn't expect Edge Hill to maintain and odd set, it'd go into the mix with the fleet at WB, OY, PO and LO. Still expect the DfT to stick their oar in....given the IEP farce, anything is possible.

Of course not - but Edge Hill are the ones responsible for lengthening the 390s; they are commissioning it and running the new software on it too. Thats both the *new* version that will be used during VT reign of WCML, and the new *NEW* software thats been on the shelf for 4 years... But can't be used as Virgin had some input on the initial software design to make it cross-compatible across the new fleets, stamped their name on it, and its signed up until 1st April 2012... :roll: bunch of halfwits the lot of them.
