Lochailort's nearby "Big House", Inverailort House: was the home of Christian Cameron, lady of the manor; who in the late 19th / early 20th centuries, photographed with enthusiasm and in great profusion, the surrounding area and doings therein. The Army took over the House in World War II, and sadly, in the course of this, most of Ms. C.'s photographic glass-plate negatives, were ruined -- she is reckoned to have died, in consequence, of a broken heart. By an odd coincidence, there was another -- somewhat earlier in the 19th century -- prominent female artistic photographer, with the same surname but at the other end of Britain: Julia Margaret Cameron, resident on the Isle of Wight. Her house, "Dimboola", at Freshwater, I.O.W.: is now a museum dedicated to her life and work.
