Hi. is it just me, or are there major Heat/AC issues on Scotrails refurbed MK2 seated sleaper coaches? I know there old but every time I seam to use them the temperature on boarding is fine but after departure the changeover between Heating/AC stops working maeaning that on long stretches the temperature builds and builds and only when the train stops or runs at less than a few MPH does the AC kKick in again? am I the only one to notice this and old as the stock may be could this not be fixed? I have written to FSR after each seperate sleaper trip as a seated passenger and nothing seams to change thoughts?

They have always been like this
Either wear extra socks, long socks, or wrap a blanket around your legs
People that use the seats regularly quite often also dip into a sleeping bag!

When hauled by the 67 this could be because there isnt a lot of power for the AC when travelling at speed or accelerating. The loco would be using most of it up.
Is a big problem on 47s, not sure about 67s.

Sorry, heating only

That is more normal on the electric hauled sections, where the air con does not receive enough power or the bypass circuit has to be operated northbound
This is due to the train ETH index exceeding the loco

Equally, the air con pump could have failed, although normally the cause is simply the fuse had tripped

Thanx. Explains why its happened for years then. Will pack shorts and sleavless tshirt next seated trip, or is that goin to far? Lol

Can you confirm between what stations you notice this

I can understand why it would happen between :
Carstairs - Euston (Glasgow or Edinburgh sleeper)
Edinburgh - Euston (Aberdeen, Fort William, or Inverness sleeper)

It was't normally a problem on WCML day sets, as the ETH rating was well within that of the electric loco

However, where a Class 47/4 loco was used on the longer Charter Trains or sleepers (as they were in the 1990s) it was normally in excess
Hence why the small sub-fleet of Class 47/6 locos was created

As a rough calculation the combined sleeper has a total ETH index of 98
A Class 90 has an ETH index of 95
Therefore the train exceeds the loco by 3, so something has to be compromised!
