GWR cancellations Sunday 18th December

Quite a few cancellations showing today. Is this due to "day after the Christmas party" non availability or some drivers had little/ no work yesterday and having Xmas shopping weekend perhaps ? Of course I'm aware RMT overtime ban starts today, are GWR that short of guards they can't cover enough shifts with Guards Managers in the gaps ?

There is an overtime ban in force across all TOCs from today, as part of the ongoing RMT industrial action. This may well lead to crew shortages at some operators.

Just the RMT working to rule from today until new year.

Notably GWR hasn’t instituted a reduced timetable for the coming week due to the work to rule, so they mustn’t think they’ll be as severely affected as others.

Or they will do what other TOCs are doing, and remove services daily by 10pm the previous night, based on the shortfall, as each day will have different uncovered turns.

To be honest, I prefer that to throwing the towel in and running (say) only 0700-1900 or some routes not at all.

Was supposed to be on the 0900 Paddington - Weston-super-Mare yesterday, arrived to find it had been cancelled. Advised to catch the train to Penzance and change at Taunton... except it was only going as far as Exeter SD as there was no TM to go into Cornwall. No hot drinks avaiable and only avaiable for part of the journey as the TM was serving snacks and changing units (2 x 5 car 802) every stop.

Trains cancelled left, right and centre across the GWR network.. Happy Christmas y'all!
