Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
I hold the unused return leg ticket of a London area to Glasgow area off peak return bought from Avanti. Out of original necessity I'd originally made the return reservation for today (Dec 13th) however the strike put paid to that plan. Seperate circumstances dictated I needed to drive back yesterday instead. Ideally I'd like to claim half the value of my £165 ticket if possible, or at least convert it to something I can use for future travel.

Looking at the refund options online the text 'Off-Peak Return Refunded' sits against today's originally intended journey with a refund value of £0.00. I've not seen any emails or texts about this and I've not initiated any refund process myself. Is what I'm seeing part of an automated process and expected?

In cases of disruption, where you are unable/decide not to travel on the return portion of your journey, you are entitled to 50% of the value of the return ticket. The calculation is different for unused inbounds (comparison to equivalent single fare comes into it).

Sounds like the Avanti refund site isn't smart enough to work this out, or it's potentially (badly) showing you an automated strike refund that they've (somehow?) done. All very odd.

I'd contact customer services.

Thank you, that's the conclusion I've also drawn from this. It's a fairly confusing situation.
Odd, too, because the difference between single and return is around £50 (not, as it sometimes is, 50p!) so something should be showing.

For a refund due to strike disruption and choosing not to travel you need to contact the retailer you purchased the ticket from.
