Was walking near the Settle Carlise today (1pm saturday 26 feb) when we saw a northbound train in the distance. It looked pendolino like but was bright yellow.
Can anybody help?

Probably the National Measurement Train, a yellow, customised HST. Hydro would be the person to ask about it.

Here you go:

Some people call it "The Flying Banana" and it's Network Rail owned, the "New Measurement Train".

Two class 43 locomotives and some modified coaches (someone can tell you what they were modified from.)

There are 4 class 43s total, and the coaches are (I think) all Mk3s, some of which (as I recall) were converted from the original prototype HST set. But as has been said Hydro's the guy to talk to about this.

Confirmed. Suprised it's back out, i heard 43013/014 were on A exams recently, got that done quick, that's why us NWC lot had the 37's T&T to cover for the HST!.... good times <D

The 3 are 43013/014/062, they did have 089 but that was sent to East Midlands with a Valenta, which then blew up not much later and was out of traffic for a long time until a new VP engine could be found to get it back into traffic
The last time it was seen with a valenta... Leeds station got fumed out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4ou8WkctS4

"quote from Hitachi - "In 2007 Brush Traction and Hitachi, Ltd equipped Paxman Valenta powered 43089 and a semi-permanently coupled Mark 3 coach with a diesel-battery hybrid power system for trials to be undertaken with the power car running in Network Rail's New Measurement Train.[6] The power car was named "Hayabusa" (Japanese for falcon)"

HTH :D

No, the tractors came out because of a system failure on the NMT.
