Hi,

I'm flying to Gatwick airport on Thursday the 15th December, intending to take an onward train to Brighton. Then I plan to travel from Brighton to London on Sunday the 18th.

Are trains actually running on these dates?

The National rail app has a bulletin along the lines of "Strike action will affect Great Northern /Gatwick express/ Southern and Thameslink services from 13 to 18 December". However the Southern's website has no mention of 15th and 18th being "problem" days.

I'm trying to plan this journey round the strikes, but I'm starting to worry now if anything will be running at all.

Can anyone advise? I've tried researching on the forum, but can't find an answer

They are not strike days, but services will be affected to some extent as a result of the strikes on the previous days. How much impact this may have will depend on the times at which you are travelling.

I am due to fly out of Gatwick on Wednesday 14th, and had hoped to travel from London to Gatwick by train. Will there be any? What are the alternative options?

Thanks. I'm flexible in regards to times, will try to jump on whatever is running. Hopefully something!

There will be trains - however there will be a reduced timetable on all of the dates mentioned, so some degree of overcrowding is probably to be expected.

On the strike days themselves (13/14, 16/17 Dec) trains will start from 07:30 and finish by 18:30.

On the days following each strike (15/18 Dec) trains will start up later from around 07:00, similar to the strike days, but last trains will generally be as per normal (up until around 23:00/midnight on the 15th, as the following day is a strike day again).

There will be trains, but as above - only between 07:30 and 18:30. Journey planners have now been updated to reflect the timetable that will be running.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but this post answers my question….need to get to Broadcasting House for teatime Friday as I’ve got audience tickets for a radio show recording. I see there’s trains from Croydon to Victoria every half hour but I’m probably gonna be getting Victoria line to Brixton and bus back from there afterwards by the looks of it.

If all else fails there's a more of less hourly National Express Coach service from Gatwick to Brighton Pool Valley service 025. It generally leaves from the South Terminal Bus Stops at XX.20 In normal times there's no difficulty getting on there but Ive had no experience of Rail Strike Days. It generally costs £10.40 Single.
