Enough of my story telling for now, are there any trains in the fleet in Arriva blue? (all classes)
No.
The only train still in Arriva blue was badly scorched in the Craven Arms fire, and we will not see it back in service in that livery.

The 67s used are a mixture of TfW ones in TfW white and red or Grand Central black with a red roof, with regular appearances of others in all over DB Red or all over unbranded Wrexham and Shropshire silver.

Class 150 - all in TfW white with red doors and TfW grey interior (plus two Northern units in Northern livery temporarily in the fleet until Christmas)

Class 153 - all in TfW white with red doors and TfW grey interior (some 153/9s have Richmond seats instead of Chapman (ex GW), and some 153/9s have no armrests or seatback tables (ex GA)

Class 158 - all in TfW white with red doors and TfW grey interior

Class 170 - all in Greater Anglia white with red doors and GA grey interior. Some units have seats missing armrests and tables.

Class 175 - all in TfW white with red doors and TfW grey interior

Class 197 - all in TfW white with red doors and TfW grey interior as delivered

Mark 4 Carriages - majority in Virgin Trains East Coast white and red, with "Plush Tush" red interior. Some are in unbranded Grand Central black with GC seat coverings.

This actually surprised me greatly when I took the Cardiff Bay Line last weekend. I expected the units to all be fitted with identical Chapman seats, although I suppose it makes sense for them to keep the current ones as there's nothing wrong with them fundamentally (despite some people not liking them).

A few years ago I had to use the Cambrian coat line every weekend for 9 years straight. I remember 1 cancellation and the longest delay was about 20 mins.
Nowadays with TFW they are plain unreliable, if you were traveling for work/ school it would not be reliable enough. For holiday makers and locals where it is not necessary it is not to bad.
The portion of the line that I used was between Pwhelli and Tywyn.

The last one is 150285 which is now in for repaint. 150279 (fire damaged) is in arriva blue, but is still at Landore awaiting repair

Are any of the 3 class 67s that were painted in ATW's later 'Ocean Blue' still in that livery and, if so, how come those aren't seen but Wrexham & Shropshire silver ones (which presumably had the necessary mods for mark 3 DVTs just as the ATW trio did) are?

I don't understand the relevance of MK3 DVTs. They needed a new modification for the MK4s and it just so happens the blue ones didn't get it for one reason or another.

67002, still in Arriva colours, was around Arriva Train Care at Crewe in early Autumn and was used for shunting the MKIVs - but as it hasn't got the extra mods it can't be used in service. I'm not even sure if it's fit for the Mainline at present.

67002 was repainted into DB red about 2 weeks back, it's definitely mainline fit. 001 and 003 are still arriva blue, but only 001 is active, 003 is stored.

I couldn't remember whether the 67s that had already been modifed to work with mark 3 DVTs needed further modifcations to run with the mark 4 DVTs. IF additional modifications had not been required, it would help explain the appearance of Wrexham & Shropshire liveried locos on the mark 4s, but the fact that additional mods are required means someone deliberately choose one or more silver ones for TfW use (as opposed to just using them because they happened to have the necessary mods already).

Transport for Wales Rail Limited (TFWR), whose ultimate owner is the Welsh Ministers, intends to place a contract on or about 30th November 2022 with Chrysalis Rail Services Limited (Chrysalis) for the procurement of a services contract for the repair of two (2) Class 150 Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) (Contract).

This procurement falls to be regulated under the provisions of the Utilities Contracts Regulations 2016 (UCR 2016) as amended. It is considered that the Contract can be placed using the Negotiated Procedure without Prior Call for Competition in the United Kingdom (UK) e-notification service via Sell2Wales (as required by the relevant legislation) and is lawful in accordance with regulation 50(1)(c)(ii) of the UCR 2016 for technical reasons. This is due to strict technical impracticality for any economic operator other than Chrysalis to access the DMUs and carry out the services required.

Following a serious collision, the DMUs were removed to premises owned and operated by Chrysalis for safekeeping after they suffered further damage from vandalism following on from the initial accident. The reasons for the selection of the Chrysalis facility for the storage were that the DMUs are gauge cleared to this location, there was no available space at TFWR facilities, there was an existing commercial agreement in place with Chrysalis for storage that enabled the DMUs to be moved quickly and the facility is close to TFWR engineering premises, enabling TFWR engineers ready access for inspections.

Any attempt to move the DMUs would require comprehensive detailed knowledge of the then current condition of the DMUs. Chrysalis has already undertaken an initial assessment, and it has taken several months to fully understand their current condition. Any attempt to remove the DMUs without this knowledge will cause significant additional damage to the DMUs and is likely to render them unrepairable. Further, the DMUs continue to deteriorate in storage and delays in the repair works are also likely to lead to further damage which could also render them unrepairable. Accordingly, whilst as a result of the inspections and assessments that have taken place, TFWR has concluded that the DMUs are currently repairable, any movement of them in their current state or delays to the repair works, possess a significant risk that the DMUs will be rendered unrepairable.”

Chrysalis has confirmed that no other supplier will be permitted access to its premises to undertake the repair works. Chrysalis is therefore the only economic operator that can meet TFWR’s requirement to provide the repair services required. As no other supplier can access the DMUs to carry out the services required, and as any attempt to move the DMUs will render them unrepairable, competition is therefore absent for technical reasons and there is no reasonable alternative available to TFWR.

It reads like TFW have received a ransom demand from Chrysalis "We've got your units, and if you want them back, you're going to have to pay!"

Worth noting that the conclusion in final paragraph is inconsistent with the third para: The final para says any attempt to move them WILL render them unrepairable, whereas the third para says that any attempt to move them without fully understanding their current condition will cause significant additional damage (really?) and is LIKELY to render them unrepairable.

Given that Chrysalis' assessment of the DMUs (such that their current condition is now 'fully understood' by Chrysalis), was presumeably paid for by TfW - one would have thought that TfW would have access to this information, thereby possibly enabling their movement without causing significant additional damage that would render them unrepairable.

Interesting to see how this plays out for Chrysalis in any further contracts for TfW.

It sounds to me more like a government owned organisation justifying why they haven't gone out to tender for the repairs but just given a contract straight to Chrysalis. Given the amount of business they do with TfW, they'd be mad to put that relationship at risk by making silly demands.

Thanks Craig. Perhaps it was just the tone that seemed a little off. Let's hope Chrysalis do a good job and soon get the units back into service.

If their name is anything to go by, they should come out looking as pretty as a butterfly!

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Could someone clarify if the following 150s are still in service/have been refurbished please?

150208
150231
150240
150250
150252
150262
150278
150284
150285

Also, is the former BN25 Mk IV set (DVT 82216) in passenger service (unsure of the HD set number), and 769s 006, 426, and 452 still in Wales?

Finally, have the 37418 and 421 locos that were used for the Rhymney - Penarth route that were hired in a couple of years ago have gone away now?

Apologies if this seems a lot to ask, but I am doing an audit of what I require for haulage in Wales, as I am intending to do the Explore South Wales rover in March.

As far as I know, all those 150s are up and running. You track them down on the day using the search option on RTT.

769426 has never run. The other two are still going.

The class 37s are long gone. They finished in March 2020.

82216 is in HD03 which Is currently split up on ATC Crewe. It won't be in service for a while as it needs to go to Landore for SDO fitting before it reenters service.
