Hi,

I'm sure I've read somewhere that Staff Priv isn't valid for use on tickets within the SPT area. Could soemone just confirm or clear that up for me, seen as ScotRail are now in charge of all Glasgow area trains, not SPT.

Say I wanted to get a ticket from Partick-Milngavie, would Priv be valid on this, or would I have to pay the full ODR that non-staff pay?

Thanks,
Matt

I've been confused about that in the past. I've used a box on a couple of SPT services before and the TTI has just glanced at it and walked off.

What's an ODR? Never heard of it. There are hundreds of codes, so chances are it may well exist but I can say that according to Avantix, there is no ODR, whatever one is, for Partick to Milngavie. Non-staff have the choice of a CDR or SDR for this flow.

SDR, sorry, SDR. I'm just curious as to whether PRIV is valid on a journey entirely within SPT's area.

No it isn't unfortunately, though I believe if one of the destination stations is outwith the strathclyde boundary then that is cool. Incidently this only applies to non safeguarded staff purchasing privilege tickets and the restriction is stated on the ATOC card, albeit short and sweet. Safeguarded pass holders are not affected. It may well change soon i believe, but i have no concrete info on that as yet.

Thanks, what does 'non safeguarded staff' mean?

Non safeguarded staff are those who have a Tocne (Toc New Entrants) pass, which is the 75% card but without the boxes for free travel.

Staff who started before 1 April 1996 are safeguarded. Their travel facilities were "safeguarded" (protected) under the Railways Act 1993.

That's a better way of explaining it!

So staff in BR days still working have free boxes too, and those who started in privatisation only have 75%?

Either way, is there a one-day rover or equivelant that covers the SPT area?

Although have to point out that ex-London Transport (TfL/LUL) staff can also be safeguarded and get Priv rate tickets on the Tocs (as can dependents/spouses/etc) but they don't get the boxes for free travel.

For travel within Britain, safeguarded staff get a number of boxes for 48 hours free travel, plus 75% discount (including on LUL services), and some other benefits of which I am not fully clued up.

Tocne (those who started after 1 April 1996) get the 75% card which is not valid on LUL except for Cross-London transfers (FCC staff are entitled to Priv rate Oyster PAYG due to an agreement between TfL and FCC which also allows certain TfL staff to get Priv rate seasons on FCC). TfL and LU staff do not get Tocne passes, but those who work for LOROL do.

In both cases the child discount is 88% of the Adult fare, subject to a maximum of £2, except for Rovers.

This is on top of any other benefits provided by their employer (eg. free GoVia pass for LM/SE/SN). And there are also other benefits such as residential passes for which I'm not sure of.

Either way, is there a one-day rover or equivelant that covers the SPT area?
SPT promote their own ''Daytripper'' and ''Roundabout'' tickets with various availability. No Priv discounts.

Mojo mentioned the daytripper, i would heartily recommend it, covers the whole area, buses, trains and ferries(not for Brodick), i think it is around £ 9.60.

Aye, fare increase of course! You used it rather efficiently too, max distance!

No chance! If I wanted to be absolutely knackered by the time I got home, I could have made Barrhill (getting up ridiculously early) and Ardlui (getting home around midnight!)

Daytripper's great; and remember 1 adult ticket at £10.20 also allows travel for up to 2 weans!

In my case it was 2 adults and 1 wean! Only advantage was that one of us could go to the toilet when we got onboard without the wee guy (although that title officially belongs to me! 5' 8") getting odd looks off the TE

Just returning to the Op for a moment. There is nothing to stop you buying PRIV tickets within the Strathclyde PTE area with a TOCNE PRIV card. The restriction is on "Scotrail's Strathclyde PTE services", not the tickets. Ofcourse, it is pointless buying the tickets if you can't use them.

Good point, for instance there is no worries about purchasing a ticket from Motherwell to Central travelling with East Coast.

2 Whats?????

You've obviously never talked to "Glesga Grannies", have you? ;) Pretty commonplace around here, although not a word I'd normally use. Just trying to pop in a bit of variety!

(For those who don't know, "wean" is pronounced like "wayne", basically a "wee one", meaning a child).

Except that the East Coast services are set-down only at Motherwell headed in the Glasgow direction
