Has 508141 been moved from the reverse siding at Liverpool Central - overnight?
Was it moved under its own power?
Has it gone to Kirkdale depot or Birkenhead North depot?

Ormskirk trains currently terminating on platform 1, to then use the reverse siding and return to platform 2, at least according to RTT. I assume the derailed train is now cleared etc?

Out of curiosity, where are the trap points? I had a look at the sectional appendix and watched the 1>RS>2 manoeuvre on the Merseyrail learner video but couldn't see exactly where it was.

Derailment believed to have been caused by a SPAD. Ground signal passed without authority with the unit subsequently de-railing on the trap points.

That video was filmed in the 90s, it's entirely possible that the trap points were installed in the years after that video was filmed.

The trap points are visible on the old route learning video on Youtube, but it's easy to miss them in the darkness because the run-off rails aren't shiny on top like the others.

I think the main point here is that whether a derailed train or unit is current or new stock, anything can end up off the rails no matter what the cause is.

Has anyone suggested otherwise? How is that the main point?

The route learner video was filmed in the early 2000s, as the revised Merseytravel livery seen several times didn't appear until May 2000.

Thanks, I'll give it another look and see if I can spot them.

I stand corrected, even I missed the trap points when I watched it.

I was caught up in this on my way into Liverpool.
12:50 Southport to Hunts Cross I was on was held at Bank Hall due to this incident, as I had an urgent appointent in Licensed Premises in Liverpool City Centre I walked up to the main road and caught a bus into Liverpool.
On the way home I caught a bus to Bank Hall and then a VERY crowded train home to Southport, standing all the way.
I was glad I bought the £5.70 bus and train ticket and not just the train Day Ranger today !.
Yes I agree wise move, trust you do not miss the appointment in Licensed Premises, nothing should delay these

508141 was spotted stabled at West Kirby yesterday 08/11/22. No obvious damage visible on the side that I could see.

At what time mark is it on the video ?
I watched again and spotted it. Around 28:30, just above the caption half a second before it changes from "Liverpool Central South Jc" to "Reverse Siding". Very dark, but I think it's them. If you continue to 29:25 you can just see them heading towards the concrete wall on the right just beyond the ground position light.

Can't imagine the logistics of re-railing the train in a small cave was easy!

Usually the low-speed derailments don't keep units out for too long provided the damage isn't severe, sometimes as little as two weeks. What might delay 508141's return is the current, seemingly perennial, stock shortage.

The detection boxes outside the trap points' toes are visible from about 28:28 and give some idea where to look for the run-off rails.
