Annoying television adverts...

Black Friday this year is Friday 25th November 2022. It's usually always the day after Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. No doubt we'll see numerous annoying TV adverts in the lead up to the "event".
Thanks, so their 'Black Friday' event will be almost a month long (because I bet it won't finish on Friday). Probably longer than the winter sales. They seem to be trying to out-DFS DFS.

Not an advert as such, more a programme trail on BBC Radio Merseyside claiming to play "all the music you love" - but they don't play much that I love. Like most BBC stations (except R3), they think that all "music" equates to 3 minute "pop hits" (past or present).
Radio Kent also claims to play "all the music you love". However, yesterday morning the first track I hear was 'Love will tear us apart'; today it was 'Country House' before the news and 'Once in a Lifetime' after. I'm no great Blur fan but I will take those, 2-and-a-half out of three ain't bad. I don't seem to be able to get the regional 'Heart', but the local commercial station was playing something which I assume is called 'Living Without You' as that was the lyric sung most often. Forgettable! It could be a generation thing and it is unlikely to be all the music I love, but it isn't a bad stab at it.

Being mainly a news outlet, the BBC stations have a difficult task and are unlikely to please everyone who tunes in to find out what is going on in their area.

To show how much these names have come into common usage, when the BBC morning TV was making a brief comment on forthcoming Royal Mail strikes that could affect online shopping, the two dates of Black Friday and Cyber Monday were stated as being particular days when strike action would be particularly disruptive.

One advert that really annoys me with been a steam railway loco enthusiast (i don't know if it does to others likewise) is the sensodyne toothpaste advert with the stupid music and male voice going " woo woo whoa woo woo like a steam train whistle I just have to switch the channel over cos of it I've never liked anyone who ridicules steam train anorak buffs or any steam rail enthusiast in general and also Thomas the tank engine rev awdry books. And also the quick book advert in the music shop with the little people on like land of the giants screaming out to the woman about making her tax digital, its very noisy and annoying.

I think that one starts with the little people shouting "Oy, Rita!", as the shop sign says Rita's Records. But before I'd noticed that sign, it sounded to me as if they were shouting "Oy, w*nk*r!" instead, which still amuses me. I agree that it's pretty annoying nevertheless.

Getting increasingly irritated by the decidedly vacuous "Daisy, Daisy, Daisy" advert for Daisy - Marc Jacobs perfume.

He should have stuck with the cream crackers.
That was actually William Jacob and his brother Robert Jacob, but you are right about crackers, in that's what the Marc Jacobs perfume ad tends to send me! ;)

Does anyone know what the backing song is in the Battersea Dogs Home tv advert?
I don't know that one but if you have the subtitles running it might say - I don't really pay attention during the adverts, but they do increasingly say in the subtitles what the music is.

Those annoying animated adverts for the leading equity release company, starting with that twee whistled tune and voiced by Kevin Whateley. He's lost all credibility as an actor by promoting those sharks.

Indeed. "We all have questions" about his involvement in that.

I absolutely agree with that.

I can't stand the new Christmas advert from Morrisons, featuring "Farmer Christmas" (excuse me whilst I go and vomit).

It says that Morrisons is the only supermarket approved by "Farmer Christmas" for all your Christmas shopping.

As if that is going to make everyone rush round to Morrisons to buy all their food for the rest of the year.

On top of that, the advert shows a fantasised version of and ideal Christmas, with a table groaning with food, with no mention of how much it all costs and the effort involved in preparing it, not to mention the washing up.

And the family sitting round the table are all smiling and looking like they are enjoying themselves, which again is an idealised version of Christmas that doesn't always happen.

I also don't like the Christmas adverts for the likes of John Lewis, Marks & Spencer... etc, where most of the advert is taken up with some vaguely Christmassy scene that makes no mention of the company or product being advertised until the very end of the advert.

I'm beginning to think the Ebenezer Scrooge might have been right, after all.

Bah, humbug!!

Thanks for the date confirmation.

Yet on Wednesday, 9th November 2022, I have just watched a Curry's TV advert that clearly stated that Black Friday was now online at Curry's...

Indeed. See post #755 upthread. :(
That one was the lesser of those more ridiculous perfume TV adverts that defy any attempt at logic in their storybooks..

When did the Duracell bunny aquire an American accent? Is he not English anymore?
In the USA and Canada, he's the "Energizer Bunny"... perhaps he's having an identity crisis?

Can we ban those Belvita adverts with the infuriating song that goes "It’s a beautiful day-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay"? I've no idea who is performing this ditty, but he certainly doesn't have a beautiful voice-oice-oice-oice-oice-oice!

The biscuits are like chipboard anyway.

Another TV advert shows what appears to be a wall-mounted clock, where a male figurine comes out and sings.. "What your wading for" but how many houses where such a clock is in the room has an amount of water that the residents would use to wade in? I cannot picture such a clock as that in a bathroom.
Last night I watched a programme about flamingoes, which are wading birds, so I wonder if the male figurine was addressing his query to a flock of wading birds.

This one? He's just standing there somewhat like a football goalkeeper, if you were to ask me.

One of my neighbours thinks the lad has just suffered from a bad attack of flatulence...:D

Why do those “postcode lottery” idiots need to use a 44 tonne big red lorry to deliver their top prize? Does it get issued to the lucky winner in bags of pennies?

Watching Johnny Depp in the "Sauvage" fragrance advert, I still cannot understand the storyline of a man and guitar, plus a veritable plethora of stacked amplifiers in a desert situation that shows a few chords being strummed then Depp just walking away, followed by what appears a breed of canines that normally do not live in such a desert area. Perhaps I must have missed the David Attenborough programme that talked of such desert-habiting canines...
