Thinking about the soon-to-be-bustituted West Ealing to West Ruislip service got be wondering how many other services there are that start and finish at stations with the same geographical term in their name?
The midweek 1513 Littlehampton -> London Victoria (Southern) train calls at both East Worthing and East Croydon. A couple in the reverse direction do so also.Thinking about the soon-to-be-bustituted West Ealing to West Ruislip service got be wondering how many other services there are that start and finish at stations with the same geographical term in their name?
The OP does specify Start/End points, not intermediate calls...Quite a few trains from London towards Kent coast destinations calling at East Malling, then Maidstone East. Sometimes the same train also calls at West Malling and then later at Canterbury West.
And on London Overground, there are trains out of London Euston calling both at South Hampstead and at South Kenton.
Also on London Overground, there are trains from Clapham Junction to Stratford (London) calling at West Brompton and West Hampstead and then at Kentish Town West as well.
Can anyone beat three?
Yep. Bin off post #7 then. Reckon this could now be a somewhat shorter thread! The OP does specify Start/End points, not intermediate calls...
Indeed. It's tenuous if the Llandudno - Llandudno Junction shuttle's termini are named after the same Geographic feature.Yep. Bin off post #7 then. Reckon this could now be a somewhat shorter thread!
Ditto for Kings Cross to Kings LynnIndeed. It's tenuous if the Llandudno - Llandudno Junction shuttle's termini are named after the same Geographic feature.
King's Lynn is named for the person (or position), not a geographic feature.Ditto for Kings Cross to Kings Lynn
Yes these are still goingBeing annoying, London Waterloo to London Waterloo. Being slightly (but not much) less annoying, are there still London Victoria to London Bridge services?
Didn’t realise this was to be replaced by a bus. Guessing it will be a one bus a week affair similar to the Ealing Broadway- Wandsworth Road service a few years ago? It will presumably mean that Chiltern won’t divert to West Ealing during engineering works at Marylebone?Thinking about the soon-to-be-bustituted West Ealing to West Ruislip service got be wondering how many other services there are that start and finish at stations with the same geographical term in their name?
Stourbridge Town to JunctionBringing it back to topic, there are services which link Ryde St John’s Road with just Ryde Esplanade and others which go onto Ryde Pier Head. The latter creates a possibly unique situation of all stations having the same place name in their titles.
How is Saint a geographic term?St Erth to St Ives
Or, more up to date, Glasgow Central to Cardiff Central.
There must, surely, have been other Central to Central services, - Lincoln and Manchester? Liverpool and Manchester? Liverpool and Wrexham?
There might be some debate over whether Newcastle is properly a 'Central' station or not https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/NCL/details.htmlThere are still Newcastle Central to Glasgow Central services.

There is the 23.10 on a Sunday from Blackpool North terminates at Wigan North Western so not just during disruption.I expect there have been Wigan North Western to Blackpool North services, especially at times of disruption.

And of course, there were many timetabled London to Manchester London Road services before it changed its name to Piccadilly.
There are - the first 3 trains of the day to Exmouth, as well as (somewhat bizarrely) the last, start at Exeter St Davids. How about the River Ex? Are there any Exeter St Davids to Exmouth services? Or do they all start elsewhere?

How about @scrapy's contribution in post #23?IMO this is the first one that truly meets the OP's criteria of referencing the same geographical term!
