I have a friend going to use the return portion of an off-peak return for the 22:00 Euston - Manchester train (Also for the last Euston - Glasgow as well. Good job Avanti).
I am shocked that Avanti cancelled the last Manchester train by not allocating the earlier train crew to the last one to make that up.
His schedule is fixed and he can't travel earlier. Any options for him to do alternative travel after 2130 from London to Manchester (of course, any advice on Delay Repay or PRO compensation would also be welcomed)?

The LNR 2146 service from Euston to Crewe connects with the 0044 Northern service from Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly. Not that much later into Manchester.

Avanti like most GB TOC’s is in an industrial relations dispute. It’s very unlikely the traincrew of the earlier train would just accept being ‘allocated’ to the later one and finishing their working day later.

If you were in dispute with your employer would you be happy to just work an extra hour and get home later?

PRO compensation is in no way impacted by the cancellation of a train the night before, if the ticket was already bought before the cancellation was published/announced. Of course PRO compensation only applies for a delay of at least an hour, and Avanti may try and deny Delay Repay on the basis of the purported Published Timetable of the Day exemption.

Interestingly it's been cancelled in the honest way (ie showing "Cancelled") and not this modern, dishonest PTotD rubbish (oh, it's before 10pm the night before we'll just delete it, it was never there, you imagined it") which Northern do a lot of now.

Just checked the LNR 2146 connection - it didn't come up on NRE, only shows the cancelled one, which seems stupid. Can confirm the LNR 2146 Euston - Crewe and Northern 0044 Crewe - Manchester are both booked to run, with Northern's 0044 actually on a faster, non-stop route (just 31 mins) as the airport line is shut for works.

Tip - when a train is marked as cancelled on NRE there is a button/link labeled "alternatives". If you press it then it will re-do the journey planning ignoring cancelled trains.

I just tried it in the NRE app and the 21:46 did not appear at first, but did appear when I pressed alternatives.

Not stopping at either Manchester airport or Stockport kinda sucks if your real destination is in the southern part of the conurbation.

There is a replacement bus for Manchester Airport tonight (which the service normally stops at).

NRE has it's faults & glitches but I still recommend it as the go-to app for passengers. That said, that 'click through' should not be there where another very reasonable option, is available - it should be showing first time around.

Really there ought to be a special stop order for Stockport on the train, to substitute for the stop on the cancelled 22:00 from Euston. That would still leave Stoke passengers in need of replacement transport, but at least most passengers would be able to complete their journey by train.
