This train was cancelled at York due to an in incident at Cross Gates (near Leeds). Does anyone know why it did not run via Doncaster?

I was on it and that is something I was also asking.

We ended up on a late running New Street service from York that was diverted via Doncaster. It was full of football fans that had drank too much and decided to continue drinking courtesy of the catering trolley in the galley they managed to gain access to but in all fairness, they didn't cause any trouble and it was actually good entertainment given the circumstances.

Things deteriorated after Derby at the toilet end of the carriage when a large group of middle aged drunks who boarded at Sheffield decided to get into an argument that ended up in a punch up on the platform at Burton.

For the avoidance of doubt, I declined the offer of "complimentary" Peroni...

A replacement bus was arranged from Birmingham New Street for passengers travelling to Bristol, which left about half an hour after the scheduled departure time. (I only know this from the announcements, I didn't go to see how well filled it was.)

Quite simply the crew would not sign via Doncaster.
A fatality caused disruption and the diversion line was closed due to engineering work/

Bristol Rovers were away to Derby (and lost).

I think they were just grown adults that couldn't handle there WKD Blue...
Believe me. I only know because the more civilised of them who ended up on the bus last night were asking today about their (rightful) entitlement to delay money !!!

The state they left the train in, they don't deserve any delay repay.

I was at Birmingham New Street yesterday evening, sat on the 1903 to York which was delayed by 30 mins waiting for a conductor to arrive off a Southbound service.
I was in the rear carriage and I saw two Bristol bound services arrive on Pl.11 within 5 mins of each other, both double Voyagers with lots of football fans. The first one to depart was well loaded throughout, the second one was very crowded in the leading set, the rear set was almost empty!

I notice that the 1606 Edinburgh to Bristol was terminated at York, even though it was only 22mins late, It would have been the last train of the day from Birmingham to Bristol and it's interesting to hear that a bus was laid on. I wonder what happened to anyone from Leeds, Sheffield or Derby who wanted Bristol or intermediate stations though!

Only 22 minutes late into York, but we were sat on it for at least another 30 minutes before being informed it would likley be cancelled and go no further.

We were advised to get an LNER down to Doncaster and get a connection to Sheffield and onwards from there but as any more XC services from Sheffield would be stuck at York anyway I decided to stay at York and see how things panned out.
