BBC News website reporting a collision between a car and a steam train at Beddgelert. One person taken to hospital.

Hope all involved are OK.

I presume the loco involved is not the FR's Blanche as used by the BBC to illustrate the story.

Steam train and car crash at Snowdonia level crossing

One person has been taken to hospital and people are being advised to avoid the area.

A steam train and a car have crashed at a level crossing in Snowdonia, with emergency services at the scene.

It happened near Cwmcloch Isaf on Caernarfon Road, Beddgelert, Gwynedd, on Friday at about 11:30 BST.

North Wales Police officers are at the scene as well as other emergency services workers dealing with the incident.

How is it that journalists (who are suppose to have an eye for getting details right) and other people are so incapable of understanding that a named train has nothing to do with a named loco, apart from a very few examples? I wonder how much else they got wrong?
I can't check as the link doesn't work...

Don't know what the car driver is thinking, I tend to slow down and check up and down the tracks regardless of signals or lack of, I'm usually very cautious crossing such tracks having driven vintage trams in the past there have been occasions where a car has portruded to far forward and I had to stop.

Good. I hope it didn't harm the loco.

A friend on the Tal-y-Llyn told me of a similar prang: The driver said "My sign says "Whistle," Yours says "STOP." I did, you didn't." End of argument!
I do hope tha the car driver's insurance company was chased for compensation though.

We missed out on a steam ride at Rhyl because a contractor's van driver had just removed a bollard and driven straight into the path of a train. The traincrew were very concerned that it might have distorted the frames and affect the pistons and motion.

Lots of people shouldn't be driving, in my opinion.

Looking at a photo circulating on Facebook I wonder if the car was going too fast and slid into the train?

Appears to be damp road conditions and and a lot of leaf debris before the crossing.

The car appeared to be wedged between bank and leading Pullman car and first carriage.

Or slid partially across the crossing and was hit with a glancing blow by the train. Car driver has no excuse though; should have been going slow enough to stop at any obstruction...

The road sign says GIVE WAY. Pity it didn't say "Stop and procede."

Whatever, it seems that road users routinely ignore warnings at ungated crossings. I do hope this doesn't result in the railway being penalised by being made to stop and procede, as the schedule time and fuel costs are far worse for the railway than for a motorist.
