Hopefully not as bad as the Jubilee Line Extension? That has to be some of the worst noise on the Underground at the moment.Talking about Nine Elms and Battersea. Has anyone noticed it is starting to become quite loud whilst in the tunnels? It's more of a high pitch noise which hurts your ears...
Hillsborough comes to mind thereAt least mathematically. I think any capacity lost by the reduction in width would be more than made up by the fact passengers could go "hard" up against the edge and effectively "crush load" the platform which they can't do currently
Likewise the Jubilee Line Extension. I wonder what has been "value engineered" out of routine maintenance. I presume someone, somewhere, in the LU engineering hierarchy knows what they have changed which is causing this. The Underground generally is getting worse by all accounts. The Central Line has some notorious sections (Liverpool St - Stratford) but other areas are becoming noticeably louder too
But then would it really be worth installing platform edge doors on what are already the safest platforms on the Northern Line? And pretty quiet ones too, unlike the JLE ones.I've read earlier in the thread that PEDs were not installed due to the Northern Line 1995 stock only having another 20 years or so left in service. Surely 20 years is long enough? It would probably be even longer until replacement given the current climate anyway.....
Aren't the PEDs on the Jubilee due for an overhaul or replacement real soon now that they are over 20 years old? Or will they be expected to operate for a full 40-45 years without change and replaced at the same time as the 96 stock?
Totally get the NR sign, I think more should be made to promote the OSI’s and short walk interchanges as so many are unaware. But seems a touch misleading to put LO on there! I know technically it’s true, but at 1tpd, is it worth it?! Unless Wandsworth Road is also an OSI?Battersea Power Station to Battersea Park or Queenstown Road are both Oyster OSIs and valid for use on maltese cross tickets.
I suspect that might be the case, it's not essential for the second entrance to open right now but it'll be a lot easier to get to the Power Station when it does. That area is open to the public, the buildings are occupied. Are they waiting for more units to be open before opening the tube part?
They did it for the EL so there maybe thats one of the reasons that the price was insanely high.PEDs are extremely expensive, both to procure and maintain, and are a massive operational headache for numerous reasons. It simply wasn’t worth all this for two stations.
I’m not certain on this, but I suspect both stations may have passive provision for them to be retrofitted.
Since the NLE (and the recently increased ridership to Battersea Power Station) I’ve noticed a significant increase in passengers unwittingly going around the loop at Kennington.
From what I’ve seen, this is mostly from people who board a terminating train, and who are then loath to leave (despite the driver announcements).
