Anyone like or dislike the new annoucements at Glasgow Central ?
I find the jingle runs too often for my liking .

I could hear them from half way along Waterloo St! Very clear announcements and no echo. Didn't here any jingles, but I only briefly walked through to Union St.

98% sure they are auto though they sound manual.Scottish Female voice ( Ever a male in Scotland!), They are indeed loud and frequant . The jingle does get on your nerves tho:roll:

I'm pretty sure they are automatic. I heard somewhere (probably on here or Scot-rail.co.uk) that they were putting in auto announcements. It's a bit of a shame, because I always liked the manual announcements at Central; adds more character IMO. But a good clear auto-announcer is always a good thing and, from what route101 has suggested, it might not be too mechanical sounding which would be a very good thing.

I heard one last week. It's not too bad, certainly not Waverley-bad, but the manual ones always added character to the station.

Yeah its nowhere near as bad as Waverleys. I noticed in Glasgow Central they were doing manual annoucements and listing the stations for the last while .

I think they sound far clearer than the old manual announcements, though that will have more to do with the new sound system I suppose. Only the deaf can complain they cannot hear them now.

I would quite like to hear them in Gaelic at Inverness TBH. More out of curiosity than anything else.

Saw them installing what looked like a new speaker system last Saturday (just gone) on the high numbered High Level platforms (where the old 13a was), blue fronted. The announcements at Central were automatic (I think), but very clear on both the Saturday moring and Sunday morning (when I saw the work being done). Dunno if this is of any assistance, but may help, I hope. Anyway, in five words: automatic, Scottish accent, very clear.

Inverness makes use of the Ditra system like the Glasgow suburban network does. Although, I still don't understand why it's up there yet the stations beyond Rutherglen on the Argyle Line don't have it.

It surprises me when i hear the ditra annoucements Fife because i just associate them with Glasgow .
There is no automatic annoucements on the EK line as well . Seems to be EMU lines . Anyone know if the Cathcart Circle , Newton or Neilston have ditra?

Probably because Inverness is a big and important station, whereas some of the ones on the Argyle Line aren't as big or important (and, given that the calling pattern remains the same for most services, not really all that much use). Most stations without announcements will have departure boards advising of times anyway, and manual announcements from Paisley in the even of a cancellation.

The stations are no different from Rutherglen, Shettleston, Carntyne etc. which all have the Ditra system and a display board. Besides, surely with all this disability access stuff that's going on, surely these announcements would be helpful to those with poor eyesight and can't read the board (and to the neds who can't read at all).

You mean like the CIS screens work in Wales then with the Welsh displayed first then in English?

Sounds interesting but seeing as some passengers have trouble understanding English, don't you think you're going to confuse them even more with Gaelic,
