This must rank as one of the oddest reasons for the disruption in the Runcorn area today. The 0747 LIV-EUS is running about 75 mins late so I should at least get compensation for missing my 1130 slot on the PO railway en route to Leyton Orient. Lichfield and Tamworth stops will be ditched

We had the WCML seriously messed one day when a tarpaulin off some OAP's allotment near Wembley Central , blew off , hit the overheads , was run into by a class 87 , caught fire - brought the wires down - and the flaming tarp landed on typically uncovered Railtrack signal cables and knocked out everything twixt Harrow and Camden. By the way it was 1600 on a Friday evening.

Try explaining to 1000's of delayed passengers it was caused by an old boy warming his soil up before planting.

I expect you’d see plenty more “odder” reasons if TOCs gave more in depth details of delays.
Prehaps best they don’t.

If such a delay happened as the result of a curtain, I hope they were a nice set.

One of our drivers once had to bring his train to a rapid halt after noticing a trampoline up ahead of him which had blown onto the line as a result of some very high winds!
