Do XC recruit Qualified Drivers at Derby?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone “in the know” at XC are aware of any plans to recruit Qualified drivers at Derby?

Do they every recruit qualified drivers? Are they short of drivers currently?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

They have done before, and did so fairly regularly (about once a year), for Derby and Leicester. That was before Covid though, so a little while ago.

They have very recently advertised for qualified drivers at Edinburgh, Newcastle and Birmingham on seperatle occasions. Maybe they're working there way around the depots one at a time, advertising if the establishment isn't met.

Yes and a lot more frequently than you’d expect, they currently have an advert for Birmingham New Street

How far is Birmingham for you - would it be worth applying and then transferring to Derby at a later date??

It’s a bit far for me but doable, I don’t suppose you know the transfer time?

You can put in for a transfer once you've been productive at a depot for 3 years. Productive is classed as signing first traction and first route. Usually a couple of months or so after starting. Obviously it then depends on vacancies, how many already in the queue etc

I'll confess to not watching what happens with advertised positions for qualified drivers, but while they do advertise for some locations, I do not believe that Derby comes up all that often.

XC tend to recruit a mixture of qualified and Trainee Drivers.
There's a fair few 'older' hands at Derby, so there will be vacancies in future.
The only depot where there's shortages is New Street.

Although Derby can be a difficult depot to get in, a driver told me several years ago that there were a fair few retiring in the following couple of years. Not sure if that time has passed now though. Why not contact the recruitment team to ask if they have any vacancies coming up?
