I don't know Lord, I did know Byford and any assertion of "what does the head of......actually do?" Just underlines the utterly blinkered and downright ignorant views of two or three Usual Suspects in here who don't seem to have the integrity to come out with their "reasons" for why Khan in particular gets right up their nostrils. And by extension anyone who is seen as being "in his camp."

I can take a guess as to what's actually going on there.

As to all the other guff about "certain sorts of views....." Yes, I can take a pretty good guess what that's about too.

Breaking up TfL and starting all over again? Oh yes, what a smart move that wouldn't cost getting on for a £Billion to even attempt, cost years of wasted time and effort and make this Government's friends and hangers on in the Consultancy Sector very happy and even richer.

As to Mr.Lord's future prospects I can only wish Him and his organisation well - after all I actually need it to get around.

Purely in the interests of accuracy, a Referendum was held in Bristol on 5th May this year which voted to abolish the mayoral position by 56,000 to 38,000.

This only applies to the Mayor of the City of Bristol which is effectively the head of the City Council. The urban area of Greater Bristol, or the West of England to give it its proper name, will still retain a mayor with powers over things like transport.

Surely only a masochist would admit to having powers over public transport in any part of the Bristol area? You'd spend all your time explaining (i) that your powers didn't extend to raising the money necessary to implement any plans or improvements and (ii) that no two local authorities/public bodies of any kind in the area can ever agree on anything, therefore you get diddly squat, even when you've been promised the earth. The place is a disaster area for local governance, and has been for as long as I can remember, and well before it. I blame the Merchant Adventurers!

Andy Lord confirmed as TfL Commissioner:

The Mayor of London and the Board of Transport for London (TfL) today announced that Andy Lord has been appointed as London’s permanent Transport Commissioner following a rigorous international search and selection process.

Andy joined TfL in November 2019 as Managing Director of London Underground and became Chief Operating Officer for all of TfL's operations in 2022.
He took on the role of Commissioner of TfL on an interim basis from 25 October 2022, following the departure of the former Commissioner Andy Byford.
