Dont even come close to Conductors. They are only for revenue. They do not have PTS or control the power doors or any Evac training or protection training.
Care to share the story???
What I meant was in terms of attitude and motivation - TEs tend to be there to help, rather than to check tickets and nothing else. I thought they had evacuation training though, ScotRail certainly claimed that during the DOO dispute.
The story then:
Group of 1st year (12/13 yr old) schoolkids ran past the ticket office at Inverkeithing to avoid missing a train to North Queensferry. The train conveyed an ATE for some reason who got to them at North Queensferry tunnel, lectured them on buying before boarding, blocked the exit and took so long to issue tickets that they couldn't get off. He then tried to charge them to Dalmeny.
(I will add that this was a number of years ago, before some First Group management troll spots this)
CarterUSM, ScotRail84 - I know the differences fine well between Guards and TEs (I've been called a Guard on a number of occasions myself on the Strathspey, I correct them and tell them I'm only the Ticket Inspector = Very confused faces

)
