Considering the reputation the eariler versions of IE had in terms of performance, I would've thought seeing that particular IE logo would bring back many memories, not all of them pleasent, for a lot of people who used those versions of IE that came built into the likes of XP etc.

Besides, if you really wanted to be nerdy with internet browser logos for this kind of thing and completely befuddle most users, you could do a lot worse than Netscape. ;)
There's a way to run virtual xp on windows 7 or 10 isn't there? Never worked out how to do it! Might run my old software if I could!

You used to be able to install virtual XP directly from Microsoft, but that's not available any more.

These days you'd need to find an ISO file and run in in Hyper-V, VirtualBox or similar.

The Autumn equinox has arrived.

Actor (male) in recent court case, now going out with his lawyer (female)...seemingly, this pairing constitutes essential news.

My local council, in their infinite "wisdom " and much heralded change to collections of refuse have suddenly discovered their plans were signed off by a Mr Baldric....hence if you reduce the number of operatives, but expect them to do more work, the bins don't get emptied on their appointed day !....who would ever have thunked this would be the case.

Must be a cunning plan!

But is it more cunning than a fox who's just been made professor of cunning at Oxford University?
Perhaps it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the UN at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning.

Duke of Norfolk who organised the Queen's funeral now has a 6 month driving ban despite claiming to need it to help arrange the upcoming coronation:

The peer who organised the Queen's funeral has been banned from driving for six months, despite claiming he needed his licence to arrange the King's upcoming coronation.
Edward Fitzalan-Howard, the 18th Duke of Norfolk, was caught using his mobile phone while driving in Battersea, south-west London, on 7 April.
He admitted the offence, at Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court earlier.
He had hoped to avoid a ban by claiming "exceptional hardship".
The Earl Marshal, 65, was stopped by police after his BMW cut across the officers' car, going through a red light, the court was told.
The officers drove up to his car and saw he was using his mobile phone. He told the officers he was "in communication with his wife", prosecutor Jonathan Bryan said.
Mr Bryan told magistrates the highest-ranking duke in England already had nine penalty points on his driving licence due to previous speeding offences and a compulsory endorsement of a further six points, which would lead to a ban.

I'm sure such a high ranking individual thought about the implications of his actions before he made the decision to break the law. Several licence points already, jumped a red light and on the phone. Perhaps he went to a well known school near Windsor and had been taught that he is above the law. Perhaps he can ride to work on horseback?

As for the magistrates court being Lavender Hill, I hope they aren't a mob!

He is a Roman Catholic and went to Ampleforth College, which is known as the Catholic Eton.

...despite claiming to need it to help arrange the upcoming coronation:
I would have thought he could afford a car and driver?

Which would also be more productive as he could, err.... use his phone for the whole journey as well...

Well, he was reported to be worth £10 million, so he might be able to afford it. Of course, if he is a bit short until the top tax rate is reduced, he could claim expenses.

"Would need security clearance"... there must be a large enough pool of drivers already cleared to work in the sort of circles and premises he will be moving in such that provision should not be difficult?

I think the 'nature conservation', 'shortage of drivers', 'security clearance' and all the other 'reasons' not to ban him are just upper class variants of the usual BS sprayed out in mitigation by the defence in an attempt to prevent the defendent having to face up to the consequences of his actions. As such an important individual he should be taking it on the chin and setting an example to others. Do the crime, do the time.

Wow!

Police involved should be sent to prison for that. Had plenty of time to move their vehicle into a safer spot once she was detained.

Possibly one of the most mindbogglingly stupid actions ever seen - incredibly the suspect lived but was seriously injured.

Almost mind-meltingly stupid/reckless. Officers involved here should have the book thrown at them, jail-time included.

Yeah, you could download Virtual XP directly from Microsoft (believe the actual program was called Virtual Machine at one time), but that's not been officially available for a good few years now as @najaB points out. You could also download virtual versions of other old Windows OSes (95, 98, 2000 etc).

The Mirror have used the wrong image of Kwasi Kwarteng:

The Mirror newspaper has apologised for a "terrible error" after it mistook another man for Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng in an online story.
Mr Kwarteng called out the newspaper on Twitter with a screenshot of the story about him, which erroneously used a picture of another man outside a Treasury building.
"That isn't me," tweeted the chancellor.
The Mirror said it would "redouble our efforts" against racism.
The story headlined "Kwasi Kwarteng says he had to do 'something different' after causing budget chaos" instead pictured Bernard Mensah, the president of international for Bank of America.
Mr Mensah had been among representatives of US banks meeting the chancellor at the Treasury on Wednesday.

The Mirror said in a statement on Twitter: "This morning a picture in a story about Kwasi Kwarteng was wrongly captioned on the Mirror website.
"This was a terrible error and we apologise to Mr Kwarteng and all our readers.
"The Mirror has a long history of working against racism and we will redouble our efforts on this."
The wrong image appeared underneath a link promoting Black History Month stories on the Mirror website.
Hornsey and Wood Green Conservative chairman Ben Obese-Jecty said: "Good to see the Daily Mirror kicking off its coverage of Black History Month with this they-all-look-the-same-don't-they clanger.
"You'd think, given the coverage he's received this week, that most people in the press would know what Kwasi Kwarteng looked like…"
Another person tweeted: "Bad from the Mirror, but they corrected their error over two hours before Kwasi Kwarteng tweeted about it.
"Now ask him a question about the economy and he'll go into hiding again."
Mr Kwarteng became the first black chancellor of the UK when he took up his role last month.

The USA has major problems with level crossing safety and major problems with their police and it seems when you combine the two together you get officers like these who think it is a good idea to park their police car on the railway line let alone with a suspect in the back.

A quick search reveals many other incidents where police cars ignored the lights and went over the level crossing or parked their car on the level crossing while dealing with something:

It just baffles me why people in the USA let alone the police have no idea about level crossing safety or railway safety in general.

The Guardian has an article that working from pubs (WFP) could be a thing this winter to save on energy bills.

Goodbye WFH, hello WFP (that’s working from pub) this winter

Pubs face a tough time as the cold bites. But one answer to rising overheads could be to cater for laptop workers wanting to save on their own bills
In the historic Cutty Sark pub in Greenwich, south-east London, the cat Mahela purrs and curls up by the bar, a coffee machine hisses and a cluster of heads are studiously bowed over laptops beneath the hull of a 19th-century paddle steamer.

At the bar, education copywriter Jen, who’s worked from this pub on the banks of the Thames a few days a month since parent brewery Young’s brought in its £15 Work from Pub (WFP) packages in 2020, chats with the staff. “It definitely beats the water cooler,” she says.
For a moment I thought The Guardian had morphed into NewsThump!

Has the writer spent too much time in the pub ? The Cutty Sark pub is near to, but not within sight of, the ship of the same name. That ship is not a steamer.

It's not referring to an actual ship but a picture or model.

Hmmm... a few weeks ago, all the pubs were doomed because of the rising energy costs!
