early last week, so based on the timelines for the other candidates who've already got through I'm hoping to hear by the end of the week. Response seems to be 9-10 days which is what we were told, I'm not sure whether the successful ones hear sooner, although as I believe it's a pass/fail rather than the top 3 (for example) from each session, once a session has been marked they'll know the result for everyone. If you were there yesterday expect to wait until late next week. Good luck.

How did you find the assessment centre? Sorry to hear that @ForTheCoast. With you passing the national standards can you use that to perhaps apply with other rail companies?

Perhaps, don't know if only doing the first half of them, complicates it. I'll have a look around and see whose recruiting. Not sure if I have to wait 6 months for another TOC

I had mine same day in the afternoon. Had a reply saying I'd passed national standards but not enhanced unfortunately and so for me at least the journey is now over. Good luck to the rest of you.

Hi all, I've been lurking on this post for a few weeks now, it's really helped.

I've made it through to the Vienna Test and MMI stage.

Does anyone know how many roles are up for grabs? There seems to be alot of days for each stage. I've heard about something called the talent pool, will they just put anyone they think is capable in there and then pick people out at a future day as and when they're needed to train them up?

Or are they looking for x about of people to train up to the standard they need and then give out the jobs?

Basically I don't want to get too far ahead of myself if it's still a 300/1 shot ha.

It’s all been done very differently to when I went thru it on the last recruitment drive. But basically they create a talent pool and pick a few from that each time there is a course coming up. Assuming you pass all the tests and get in the pool it’s more of a case of “when” than “if”.
not quite sure how they decide who gets picked first but some people will be offered a place in the training school very soon after passing all the stages and some will be waiting maybe up to 2 or 3 years. Some peoples life situation can change a lot in that time so I believe they now invite people back for an interview to check if they still want the job etc if it’s been a few years.
Im not sure if the introduction of the new fleet and the need to train existing drivers on it will effect this process further down the line.

It is a bit of a change yes. When I was emailing the opc they said that they was still organising people's assessments

I’m in 22nd sept. I wonder if anybody was meant to be in mon 19th and whether they are moving them or not.

Yeah that's a good point tbf. Maybe half a dozen or so at the most now but even that would mean the last person in for MMI would be waiting a while, provided everyone passed all computer assessments that is.

Congrats on all of your progress so far. I see that a load of you have done the OPC VSE test and wondered if anyone can give me any tips/ hints/ pointers? I've applied for Irish rail and I'm through to the second phase of assessments in Ireland and I'm travelling to Dublin from Cardiff to do it! I'm feeling fairly confident with all of the other tests, it's just the VSE that I'm nervous about. I know that the practice material is nothing like the actual test so would really like a description of what it is like or any help/ hints/ tips or anything you wished you'd have known before-hand.
I'm already a qualified driver in Cardiff but I didn't have to do the VSE to get this position! If I can help you with any other part of the recruitment process I would be more than happy to help any way I can.

Wow that's a bit of a trek and good luck to you, hope it goes well! For the VSE, I bought the software from trainee train driver website, use this link https://traineetraindriverinfo.com/product/dynamic-visual-search-test/

This is also a quick video about the first stage as well.

If you use the trainee train driver website link and scroll down, it explains the assessment on there pretty much to a tee. The test is slightly different, I can't remember if the software has 2 trains on the track at the same time like the actual OPC assessment in stage 3 and the images are different as well but the setup is exactly the same. However, this software is great and as close to the real thing you can get and I think it will give you the best chance of passing, it certainly helped me! Yes it costs money, but if it helps get you the job you want then can you put a price on that...

Been today. Passed the computer tests and had my mmi this afternoon. There was 5 of us today and we all passed the computer tests. The dual handling was a lot trickier than you would think I thought personally. Now the wait….

That is brilliant news. Didn't realise that you found out on the day if you pass or not. How did you find the mmi?

You find out if you've passed the tests on the day, if you don't pass you won't go onto the MMI essentially. Then you've got to wait to find out if you've passed the MMI via email between 7 and 10 days later.

The mmi wasn’t as bad as I thought. I’m happy with how I did in it but whether that’s good enough is a different question. 7-10 day wait for final result.
