Arrrggggghhhhhh|| Let down by the Elizabeth line

I wanted to attend the funeral of a work colleague on Wednesday 7th. September. 10:00am. Acton High Street.

Simple journey - SWR New Milton to Southampton Airport Parkway - XC to Reading and Elizabeth line to Ealing Broadway.

New Milton To Southampton Airport Parkway - 06:23 faultless -oh! all right 2 minutes late.
Southampton Airport Parkway to Reading bang on (XC) time.
Reading XC arrived 4 minutes late platform 12 - acceptable.
Cross platform to Elizabeth line and train set off 8:30ish 20 minutes later we were not at Maidenhead.
Announcement when signal clears train is fast to Paddington after Maidenhead stop.

Now being an ex-railwayman I think closer to destination the better so fast to Paddington and back 2 stops to Ealing Broadway - err - no. Another 15 minute wait outside Paddington before a mad dash across to platform 10? was it to Ealing Broadway - arrived a bit late but far happily not too late as the funeral was also running late due to massive attendance and was a great send off for my colleague.

If any London Transport TfL staff who knew him my colleague, Tony Alfred, was a great and popular man who will be sadly missed and died far too young. RIP Tony 1961 - 2022.

Your destination is Ealing Broadway, right? If so I will not do that.

My rule of thumb is closer to destination the better, but only on the original route. The reason is because if there is anything wrong when I'm outside of the normal route, I will be worse off if I stay with the original route, but delays on the original route are unavoidable.

If I were you I would get off immediately at Maidenhead when the skip-stop announcement is made, and take the next eastbound train as far as possible but not beyond Ealing Broadway, repeating the process until I reach the destination.
