Which means today if she has passed before 6pm.

It will take Charles some strength of character to make a statement to the country shortly following his mother's passing. I doubt I could do that.

It certainly feels like it, senior politicians leaving the House together, the Royal Family gathering at her side & muted media responses do seem to point towards this.

When my dad was very ill we gathered twice. You don't gather the clan unless the news is bad.

It is quite possible that she has already passed away and the process involves "phasing in" the bad news slowly.

And me too. It’s a day that many have long speculated about over the years (perhaps distastefully, perhaps out of fear or curiosity), and the prospect of it coming very soon is scary when the same monarch has reigned for seventy years.

What is Operation Unicorn?​

Operation Unicorn will see the immediate suspension of business at the Scottish Parliament so that authorities can prepare for a state funeral.

Political business would be suspended and the funeral would likely take place around ten days after her death.

It is believed that if the Queen was to die in Scotland, then people from all over the globe could travel to the country.


It is thought that St Giles’ Cathedral and Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh would be focal points for both journalists and the public.


It will also mean that her body could be laid to rest at Holyroodhouse, with the coffin then carried to the cathedral on the Royal Mile.

The Queen’s body would then be placed on the Royal Train at Waverley station and journey back to London.

Given the current concerns about the queen's health, does anyone have an idea about the route the train carrying her coffin will take from Aberdeen to London? I know that this may show on Rail Record as a VSTP, but was wondering if it's likely to be ECML or ECML? Does anyone know what route her majesty's train normally take to/from Balmoral?

Movements involving the Royal Train are not published on sites such as RTT or Rail Record for security reasons. The only way to track it would be a service like Traksy that provides a signalling diagram, but no timings will be shown.

Are they really that deluded that they think people want to watch constant mourning and not get any escapism? Especially at a time where the cost of living is going up and things are difficult for a lot of people.

At least there are many avenues to escape it though these days. Back in 1997 for Diana, live TV & radio was almost all you had for electronic entertainment bar VHS. Now, you can happily switch off live TV if you like and watch whatever you like on demand. One of the small saving graces of modern times.
