The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace has said.
"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," a statement said.
"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."
Prince Charles has travelled to Balmoral.
The Duchess of Cornwall has also travelled there and the Duke of Cambridge is on his way.
The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

It's been noted how purple her hands were in recent photographs. Bruising/bad circulation I suppose, my old girl used to purple up if someone held her hand. As the family are gathering round sharpish, I fear the worst.

Indeed, this is a degree of seriousness which we've not really seen before. The urgency of the summoning of the family and the degree of the media and worldwide coverage suggest this is a serious situation which is going to lead to some extremely sad news delivered in the short-term. Philip or not, 96 is a very good age to reach, particularly if able to reach it with enough faculties remaining to continue as a monarch.

The phrase "She remains comfortable" is something that is normally said of someone who hasn't got long left.
Whatever happens she's had a good life and she may have had her failures but she's been a constant figure through the dark times and the good times, so it will be sad when she does go.

Never know how to take items of news like this from the MSM. It may be she's had a setback but will pull through again. My two late Grandmothers had us all around the hospital bed in their early 90s preparing for the worst. Lo and behold they were out gardening a few months later.

When the inevitable does happen though...that's the end of a massive era and the last of the monarchs who did their duty to the book.

This is a known part of the operation (likely the most rehearsed piece of news coverage ever), so the fact it's been invoked speaks volumes I fear.

But at this point the House of Commons is still sitting. As I understand it, that would not be possible if there was notification, even if not officially released, of her passing (any business would stop, and no further business could proceed until MPs have re-sworn the oath).
