Since I've lost track in recent weeks, what's the current progress on the fleet refurbishments? I want to ride on one of the newly done sets at some point and thus want to try and weigh my odds of catching one.

Oh dear me, had I just scrolled up a few pages then I'd have had my answer before even asking the question *facepalm*. Thanks anyway though, it's a big help. I think at this point it'd be better to wait a while before trying my luck since not as many refurbished units are out as I thought.

If you're very flexible you can use Realtime Trains to see what is out on a given day, that's how I eventually found one. Though of course the risk of a cancellation is high.

Good idea actually. I think that I'll give a try if the tickets aren't so prohibitively expensive.

Euston to Milton Keynes, Stockport to Manchester or Crewe to Warrington/Manchester/Liverpool are your best bets for cheap and likely

Is there any pictures or info on what work is being done to the units sent to Edge Hill?

Avanti Wes tCoast has confirmed that the 12th Cl.390 has entered Alstom UK Widnes for refurbishment. 390128 replaces 390119 in the programme. The latter will run to Edge Hill for more interior work. Already treated are: 390104/119/123-125/131/148/154-157.

Does the refurbished unit tracker only cover the present time or is there a way to find out in advance if a refurbished set will be running on my local services?

Allocations are only done on a day-by-day basis, so it’ll only cover that day (either the tracker for the near future or, for the full day, use RTT)

I’ve just seen a 390 trundle past my house on 5F00 with a refurbished interior and working screens, unfortunately didn’t get the number

Can I just say I think it's pretty poor form to directly copy information from someone else and make no attempt to provide a source. You've literally copy and pasted the tweet, you could at least provide a link to it!

It's not even the only time he did it yesterday!

Have you looked on RTT?

As an aside the new seat plans for the 390`s on the Avanti website look very good and provide the window connoisseur with locations of good window seats whereas other TOC`s are not very helpful on that score.

119 seems to be taking a long time! Have they found any difficulty?

After they're released from Widnes they have to stay at Edge Hill for a while, usually just over a week. There'll be an A exam on the train and some final bits and bobs. I think 119 is having a little extra work done on it but can't confirm the details. Should be out soon.

It was a VSTP which unfortunately don't update on RTT on most occasions. I can confirm it was 390119.

The Virgin seat maps were really useful on the 390s too.

And to be fair to other TOCs, the 390s are by far the worst train for "wall seats". Other than the "door pocket" seats on the 80Xs, all other trains will offer you at least a reasonable chunk of a window to look out of.

80x in the standard layout are similar, like the Pendolino the rows near enough alternate "full window, almost no window".

The 390 windows are narrower and shallower than on the 80x, with larger pillars, so each carriage has far more blank wall to start with

Heard rumours 390119 is to lose it’s livery; expecting this to be wibble, but just want to confirm on here if anyone knows?
