Indeed. But as @Cheshire Scot pointed out, mid-winter during a pandemic-induced slump in flights is probably not the most representative sample. For example, the AMS flights have gone from daily to twice weekly and IIRC there are usually summer seasonal flights to some Spanish holiday destinations.
That is the sort of range I had in mind from stays in the adjacent hotel in September and November last year, perhaps slightly less at weekends.
Crikey, that drop is huge, back to 1980s levels.
Without wishing to divert from the topic too much, It's probably fair to say that most people from Yorkshire as a whole (let alone Bradford) will use Manchester Airport, given the far wider range of destinations available from there compared to LBA.
Surely people will use whichever airport is closer and/or has the cheapest fares to where they want to go.
Well of course... but smaller regional airports such as Leeds-Bradford will likely have a smaller range of destinations available compared to Manchester which is more of a hub. If you're flying to somewhere that is served by your local Airport that's great, but more often than not you'll be looking at Manchester or a transfer.
The only thing that can be said with any certainty is that people will fly from the airport that best meets their needs - be that price, distance, cost, destination, connections, airline or anything else.
You can make huge savings flying out of Inverness on BA (Oneworld) long haul via London, than flying on the same plane but starting from London.
Yup, this is mainly due to INV being exempt from APD tax. I've read a few trip reports of people using the Caledonian Sleeper the night before their flight then getting a taxi to the airport.
One of the reasons that the AMS flights were/are useful.
I can assure you that plenty of passengers from Bradford use LBA.
Coincidentally. Was speaking to friends earlier in the week who said that a couple of years ago their son who works in London flew up to Inverness to join the family group to fly on holiday to the US on a through ticket via LHR and still saved a considerable amount. Then on the return flight just did a "no show" for the leg to INV. Does seem bizarre.
You need to watch out doing this though, some airlines have said that they'll start banning customers who do this too often.
I would be very surprised if they don't. BA would just be giving the connecting traffic to KLM.

Which AHB crossing is that?Some photos taken this afternoon of the Inverness Airport Station, showing the new footbridge and other progress.
Also one of the soon to be closed level crossing on the Petty Road, showing the new footbridge which I was surprised to see is set back a little distance from the road. I've been in Inverness 30+ years and had never been along that road, so had to do it before it was too late.
