I recently asked a member of station staff to arrange a Special Stop Order (SSO) at Harlow Mill, on a train operated by a class 745. This was due to a previous train being cancelled and it being a long time until the next connection.
The member of staff came back after a few minutes and said they were unable to arrange the SSO, because the class 745 would not fit in the platform.
Whilst this is of course the case (Harlow Mill is only 168m long whereas the class 745s are 237m long), surely the class 745s must have Selective Door Operation (SDO)? I know that the 755s definitely have it, e.g. to allow a single door to be released at Berney Arms.
If class 745s lack SDO, this would seem a huge omission.
If they do have SDO, is there some limitation whereby stations have to be in the calling pattern/original schedule for SDO to work correctly? And therefore it is not possible to add a SSO for stations where SDO is required?
Or was the member of staff perhaps just misinformed (to be charitable)?
Thanks.
(@dk1 perhaps you know the answer to this?)
