Following on from the thread on things you don't see people wearing any more at https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...any-more-or-that-have-made-a-comeback.229271/ can you think of any items of clothing that are popular with young people but that you think don't look right on an older person, and if so at what age do you think you become too old to wear one of those?

Personally I think there's nothing wrong with feeling young at heart when you're in, say, your 40s, 50s, or even older and wearing stuff that mainly younger people wear. I know not everyone feels that way, though: some people think you should look your age.

Jeans with holes in them. I don't think the look right on younger people, but I'd certainly never wear them.

On quite ordinary Spanish town beaches you see very old people walking to and fro along the edge of the water who definitely should be wearing something - and quite a bit more...!

You could say the same about seeing kids dressed as adults...you know the sort of thing, little boys wearing suits and bow ties, girls looking like they're going to be appearing in Vogue....however, back to the query...elderly men wearing baseball caps....back to front .

Nobody has to "look and dress " their age anymore, unless they really feel so inclined to conform to outdated expectations...there are plenty of fashion options available now for people to dress as casually as they wish

Hoodies.
Unless part of sporting attire, when actually engaging in, or travelling to/from such activities, hoodies look ridiculous on anyone over the age of 25-30

Football shirts don't belong on anyone over 12, with an exception if you're going to a match.
Football shirts are fine, but you may not have a player’s name on the back if you are over 18.

Printed tee-shirts that were made for a stag weekend, especially when you are not actually on the stag weekend (even if you are, I think they're a stupid idea!)

Oh dear! Oh dear! I’m 65 and I also have a collection of hoodies. Some of them are getting a bit old and I am thinking of getting a couple of new ones. I’ve been wearing them for years and probably before they became popular. Great to slip on in winter and when going out on cooler breezy days and evenings.

I don’t think I look as silly as a 65 year old wearing a hoodie in cold weather, as young people do walking round the streets wearing them with the hood up during very hot summer weather. At least I don’t wear my puffer jacket with the hood up in summer as I’ve seen some doing even these last few weeks.

Tee-shirts with the names of long defunked rock bands on them, particularly those you bought when you were a teen. Nowadays they don’t even reach you belly button and it is not humane to inflict the sight of the lower part of your naked beer gut on the general public.

Sweat-shirts with slogans containing swear words (*) on them. You should have grown up by now: ‘it’s not big (unlike your beer gut) and it’s not clever’.

* - Or near swear words: French connection UK, I am looking (with distaste) at you.

Is a defunked band one that no longer plays music that "combines elements of rhythm and blues and soul music and that is characterized by a percussive vocal style, static harmonies, and a strong bass line with heavy downbeats"? :D

There's a man of about 60 who drinks in my regular pub and has a huge collection of t-shirts which he bought at concerts in his youth. They do, however, still fit him and don't look out of place.

A black and white striped t-shirt, beret, string of onions and a bicycle, when in France.

I'm 64 and to keep the blazing sun off of the back of my neck I've turned my baseball cap around on several occasions.

Again at the age of 64, I've a nice collection of hoodies. They're great in the winter. :D

When Theresa May became PM I can remember asking myself should a woman of 60 be wearing skirts above the knee? My late mother, who would have certainly worn short skirts back in the 1960s, would have definitely said no.

They are the CAMRA Real Ale festivals uniform designed for blokes who are trying to look slightly interesting. They really want you to strike up a conversation and the band t-shirt is a topic that could instigate that. By and large every one else plus anyone who are regulars at a CAMRA guide listed pubs know this so they'll be at the corner of the bar alone waiting to strike with facts and stories they've built up on to any unsuspecting customer who ventures in and asks about a beer on tap.
They will also bee seen with beards, rucksacks/carrier bag and notepads. Trainspotting and model railways is also of interest.

I gave up jeans with or without holes once I reached 60.

And I wish the hat industry would realize that some British people do have head sizes of 66 cms or more so I don't have to wear Compo hats or import headwear from the USA or Canada. And getting a skiing helmet to fit a few years back was an absolute nightmare. I can't even get a baseball hat to fit, not that I would wear such a thing. (No sarcy comments about being a big head please!)

I know what you mean about hats, they seem to only cater to people with small heads. I find getting one a struggle, especially as i need one now as my hair has given up growing on top and only seems to want to grow like crazy horizontally.

Tracksuits and Jogging pants in public for anyone over 18 and not doing sport. They are fine around the house as you don't look as lazy if you stayed in your Pyjamas all day.
Football shirts for overweight adults, clubs should just stop at XXL, nobody larger than that is playing football and full kits for anyone not playing football for over 16's.

Crop tops paired with tiny hot pants need to be warn by those with the figure. Yet when warn by extremely attractive women travelling on the underground they need to be careful not to stand right in front of older men sitting on the seats, as in this heat it's going to cause a heart attack.

I play hockey, and have a shirt with my own name on the back, worn proudly down the pub!!

As for things you shouldn't wear... men's pointy shoes at ANY age. Just why would anyone wear them??
