Hi,

I am looking to book tickets from Manchester to Glasgow for this Sunday 13th. I've tried a few websites but they all won't show prices (some not even showing times). Would anyone know what's going on?

You do know there's an ASLEF strike this Saturday, don't you? There will be, at best, a very limited number of trains running.

Do you mean Sunday 14th? Saturday (the day of the ASLEF strike) is the 13th.

I'd just fly to be honest. The northern part of the WCML is a state on Sundays; I wouldn't rely on it for a journey of that length.

I wouldn't even consider flying given the current situation of staff shortages/cancellations

At such short notice, I'd be fairly confident of the flights running (even for journeys such as MAN-GLA, which involves a transfer in Belfast and is on EasyJet). For more than two weeks out, I'd be cautious, but still far more confident than I would be for the equivalent rail journey.

TPE trains are not directly affected by the ASLEF strike.

However, they will be busier than usual as a result of Avanti et al being on strike. And TPE have suffered from a high rate of cancellations for the last 6 months or so, due to industrial relations issues.

Flying far more reliable than trains. Don't believe all the media hype! I wouldn't risk a train on the west coast particularly on a Sunday.
If you are totally opposed to flying you could always hire a car. Plenty of one-way options.

Some might say it's a wonder that there's a TPE service at all beyond a handful of services between Manchester Airport and Lancaster.

Flying is of course an option provided you're happy to change aircraft somewhere.

The timetable has been published. As expected there is no service either to Glasgow or between Lancaster and Carlisle: https://www.tpexpress.co.uk/-/media/strike-timetables/tpestrike140822anglo.pdf
