Just a couple of observations. The class 378s have a detrainment light when the front ladder is used in an emergency egress situation. It's possible this light serves the same purpose.
In terms of installed traction power and therefore performance I am a bit disappointed
Class 360 Desiros (and their Class 350 Cousins) have an installed power of 1550 kW. This according to http://www.worldlingo.com/ma/dewiki/en/TOPS-Klasse_360 gives them an impressive acceleration rate of 0.94 m/s ²

Installed power on a class 379 is 1200 KW giving a 0.65 m/s per second acceleration rate. This differs from other Electrostars as they have 1500 KW installed power. So what's happened? Well the 6 traction motors are the same ones the class 378 uses and are only rated at 200 KW. Class 357/375/377s are rated at 250 KW each. Incidentally the class 378s benefit as they are geared for 75 mph and instead of 6, are fitted with 9 traction motors each of 200 KW giving a theoretical 1800 KW making them the most powerful suburban EMU!
