Just having a look around BR; it's still rather bleak! Any plans to move the massive National Grid point or any of the pylons? (I'm guessing not as it would be hundreds of millions)

I expect most of you on here will have already seen Diamond Geezer's satirical take on it:

This week TfL have opened a new premier sightseeing attraction to rival the cablecar - the Barking Riverside Viewing Platform.

Not any time soon, they had to build the viaduct in such a way that avoided the powerlines specifically.

Do you mean its permanent design is sculpted by the powerlines or that the construction process was unusual because of the powerlines?

It’s the former. The viaduct has a noticeable dip as it goes under the grid power lines, to maintain adequate separation between them and the OHLE. The last photo in post #60 is showing the situation.

This is 275Kv supergrid site with a 132kV substation and a 33kV substation as well as a supply to NR Barking Feeder station. It provides power to feed all of East London including Canary Wharf. Clearly the developers of the new house build must have contemplated that when they decided to develop the site. The irony is wherever a new wind farm is built in Scotland they strongly resist pylon routes so have to run the connection in cables despite it being more expensive.

At least the station was built before all the houses were built although I would have thought a station up nearer the LTS lines would have been a good idea as well given thats where all the houses are located.

Isn't there passive provision for another station at Renwick Road which could serve the northern part of the site?

I have just done a video on this here so it may be illustrated and easier to see in ones mind;

Thanks. You say that the tracks extend past the buffers because it's designed for extension: I don't think that's the reason, buffers tend not to be at the end of the track because they are designed to slide along the track viscously if struck by something heavy, like a train.

I believe the idea of a Renwick Rd station is to serve the existing developed area near the junction, it will be to the west of where the viaduct ramp descends under Renwick Rd, right next to the Ripple Lane sidings.

Yes, the track past the buffers is the over-run space. It's no indication of provision for extension at all.

Just a gentle reminder this is an infrastructure & stations thread for updates regarding what is actually happening.

We do welcome posts of a speculative nature, but these belong in the Speculative Discussion section please.

According to the resources posted earlier, I make the distance between Barking & Barking Riverside at 2 miles & 64 chains.

I visited yesterday, and I could feel the curve approaching the viaduct.
