Continuing on from my thread on Paddington to Exeter...

Waiting for advance tickets to come on sale for the 1006 Saturday service to Exeter (23rd April)

Just out of curiosity started to book a seat to see if I could get a table seat and power socket for the kids electrical gubbins.

When I came to the select seats, chose the option of table and power, but the got the message that reservations are not available. Is this usual for FGW or just the service I am trying to get on?

For info been able to book table seats on VT from Manc to Euston.

Andy.

If advance tickets haven't been released you generally won't be able to book seat reservations either.

I have had simmilar problems booking PAD -CDF rtn in November and again for late February for Welsh rugby games. There are never reservations on the way back to PAD after the game due to the queuing arrangements at CDF which I accept. However when APs are released I have been unable to book and reserve to CDF so I split the journey, otherwise I can't get a reservation from PAD, and I'm not prepared to stand from PAD to CDF. Does anyone know why I can't book and reserve PAD to CDF on these days ?

At a guess, all that FGW will allow to be booked from PAD on match days are walk-up tickets. Yield management at its worst. Why charge people £10 a ticket if you can fill trains at £50 a ticket kinda thing.

Cheers,

Barry

Just for info, there are power sockets at every seat on the FGW HSTs. You might need a bit of luck to get a table though, as there are usually only 2 per coach. As Deerfold says though, you generally won't be able to reserve seats till the Advance tickets are on sale - if you do it quickly you should get your choice of seats.

Each coach is on a separate trip switch, and sometimes one side will work but the other not. If the power sockets are not working in one carriage, just keep going through the train checking both sides until you find one that works. Easiest way to check is see if a red light come on the double socket at the table.

The only way to guarantee getting a table is book first class, by the way.
