Hello,
Assuming the strikes scheduled for 18th and 20th August do go ahead, I have a couple of queries regarding timetabling.
1) What sort of service will WMR be operating?
2) What would be the best way of getting from Birmingham to Colchester?
3) Will there be any services on the Claction* branch line?
I understand that concrete data probably isn't available yet, but if anyone has any data about how it operated in the recent national strike, that would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

*Clacton, not Claction - I don't think any service has ever run on the Claction branch line

Broadly speaking I would expect the same timetables to operate. The only difference relevant to your journey is that WMR may have some level of service on the diesel routes, whereas they had none during the strikes, which I understand was due to long-planned engineering works blocking access to Tyseley depot.

The best way from Birmingham to Colchester, as always, will be via London. There will be trains, but they will be a lot less frequent to usual. There will not be a service to Clacton.

Thank you very much!
Sorry to bother you again, but how did WMR operate last strike? I'm not from Birmingham (asking for a friend) and I can't find any details on how they operated (though I may well be overlooking various things).
Also, which route from Birmingham to London would be best to take?
Thanks again for your help.

There was a limited service (generally 1tph) on most of the electric routes. Where in Birmingham is your friend travelling from?

For Birmingham to London it would be best to simply use Avanti, who will likely run 1tph.

Chiltern withdrew all services north of Banbury (though this could have been influenced by Tyseley depot being blocked) and WMR split their Brum-Euston services at Northampton (1tph Brum-Northampton, 2tph Northampton-Euaton).

Nope, they could get out at the southern end of Tyseley during the block. They had to reverse on the Up Main and they were far from long planned too, a proper last minute affair in terms of disruption of that magnitude.

No idea, they live on the Cross-City line but I think they're travelling with some other people.
Thanks, that's super helpful!

There wasn’t any service on the branch line during the last national strike - the only trains stopping at Colchester (North station, not Town which had no service) were a 1tph stopper from Colchester to Liverpool Street and a 1tph intercity service from Norwich to Liverpool Street.

The service operating on 18th and 20th August will be determined when it is known what ASLEF and TSSA are planning on or around those dates.
