Western Queen sent into wrong platform at Kidderminster 22 June 2022

I found this clip on Youtube.

Ths shows the Western Queen on the Severn Valley Railway being sent into the wrong platform to pick up a rack of coaches. Presuambly a signaller error for setting the wrong route and driver error for accepting it?

Can a driver secondguess a signalman? Perhaps there was some reason such as a temporarily defective set of points?

Going into a different platform than planned, providing it has suitable length and traction power, is not a wrong route. If every driver sent into a platform other than the scheduled one came to a stand and phoned the signalman for confirmation, the rail network would be in chaos.

Yes, generally.
In this case it was a LE move; there was a set in each platform, and neither driver nor signaller appears to have realised the error.

Yes, exactly - if I'd captured that on video, I certainly wouldn't have bothered with the effort of editing it and posting it on YouTube as a movie on it's own, maybe just used some of it as 'filler' in a longer piece.

When the driver sets out to pick up his train at Kidderminster, does he know in advance which platform he will be routed into? Or does he just accept that the train waiting in the platform he is routed to is the one he is intended to couple up to?

It’s something that if it had happened when the Westerns still worked on BR just the handful of people on the end of the platform would have noticed.
Now it’s seen by hundreds maybe even thousands of people!

Depending on the railway concerned - they might only know their departure time.
