London Midland Stock Movement?

Just seen 3 London Midland cars pass through Burton on Trent, a 2 car class 170 and a 150 at the front heading towards Derby. Any ideas where there heading? Bombardier at Derby?

When you say three cars, you only mention two sets there.

Is there two of one and one of the other?

I'm not sure how possible it would be to couple a driving car of a 150 to the front of a 170: Do you mean a two carriage 170 plus 153?

yes, a 1 car 150 coupled to a 2 car 170, 3 cars in total.

may have been a 153, was going over a bridge as i was walking up to it so saw it passing, was a 1 car at the front, not sure of the compatability issues, either a 150 or 153,

If the leading carriage was in London Midland livery, it'll have been a 153: There aren't any 150s in LM livery. I still couldn't tell you where it might be off to unfortunately, that does indeed seem a bit out of the way for LM stock.

thanks for the info, only place i can think of is bombardier at derby, but don't understand why the 153s going there aswell, never seen LM pass through before, which is why i posted as its strange, haven't even seen an EMT pass.

Litchurch Lane for multiple working tests with a 172?

SDO fitment?

It could be there's a problem with the driving controls or cab equipment at that end of the Turbo and the cab needed to be buried, hence the need for the Scud to be tacked onto the front so it could be driven.

would they not test working compatibility on the test lines aswell? or would they do it on the small stretch of track behind litchurch lane?

Very possibly going to Lichfield via Burton - with closure of Tamworth/Lichfield lines at regular intervals, route learning is taking place over both routes. When Tamworth is closed, XC run via Lichfield with a half LM service. When Lichfield gets closed, they run via Burton back through the City line.

Just a guess - seems like a sensible time (Sunday) to be route learning. Neither the 170s or 153s have any business in Derby.

Eventually, yes. But I suppose it would depend on why it's going to Derby in the first place. If it requires specialist attention that Tyseley can't provide then there's every chance it could end up almost anywhere.

I believe the units were of to derby for coupling test with the class 172's.

Although not due in service till the may timetable change it is far better to check the units at Derby where everything can be tested. It is not just about coupling but also about continuity of electronics, PA as well as SDO.

The 15 3 car sets will arrive first so as the are 5 car trains running around in the week it is important to find out if they will work with 2 car 150's to stem the risk of short forming. The hope is to run a 3car 172 with a 2car150 in the short term.
