No idea what the pass mark is but I was probably completing 25 - 30% of each sheet and I passed.

I'd concentrate on accuracy rather then be concerned how much of the sheet you finish.

Do you have any examples that helped you complete the Railway Verbal Communication Exercise. I looked online and can only find two. I believe this one is about listening to an Audiotape. Is the tape at normal speed or a little slowed down?

They are looking for accuracy and consistency, also making mistakes isn’t necessarily a bad thing if not too many as long as you’ve recognised the mistake. You’ll never complete the whole sheet just do as much as you can without sacrificing accuracy

This one is about listening and remembering key information you’ve been told. When you do it try not to note down any information on the tape that isn’t relevant and only note down the key parts that need relaying

I found the Rvce really easy. Like has been said,listen to the recording between a driver and control. You are allowed to make notes but when they 'test' you on it they only need to know the 'bullet point's not any other stuff. In the one I did nearly 3 years ago it was about a freight train being in collision with a car on a level crossing. They only needed to know where it happened,the nearest milepost,any casualties,state of your train and if you needed a locomotive to two you back to the depot. If the British transport police need to attend. They do not need to know the colour & make of the car you were in collision with.

well considering they are using a 20 year old cd/cassette player it can sometimes come across as muffled etc. They did play it twice I think. They did let you make notes and take them back in when you do your 1to 1.Remember bullet points only.!!

Finally got the phone call from HR which I was waiting for nearly 3 years. Pass the medical for Guard and starting training at Basingstoke on 25th July. Happy days

Where are you based? I am going for Bournemouth but I have no idea where I am in the waiting list. I applied recently. I was curious to see if they are calling anyone for Bournemouth already.

I am in Woking. Have no idea about Bournemouth. I had to only wait for 3 year, I will not hold my breath regarding starting date. Waiting is the most frustrating thing you will come across the whole process. I can only reassure that HR will come back to you for sure. Best advice I can give is patience, hang in tight and it will happen.

It's a very basic test really. Both with and without glasses. Unless your prescription is wrong currently it's unlikely to cause issues.

As others have said, it’s very basic, read some letters on a chart (with glasses if you wear them) read a couple of paragraphs of text gradually getting smaller. Using the machine to read boxes in different positions on the screen and say which is further forward or further back. Then the colour blindness book as well, even if you previously did it at your interview / tests

After nearly 3 years since the last advert for commercial guards role at Yeovil Junction these have been advertised again. I was under the impression that the depot needed 10 or more new Commercial 's for December into the new year when the timetable changes.

Was just looking at this. Would living in Taunton put them off if I was to apply. Also the training wage is quite a drop from my hgv driver wage but the full wage is higher. How long do you roughly stay on trainee wage

It depends how long timewise it takes from your home address to the depot at Yeovil Junction. Unless you want to relocate if you are successful in the role. You could stay on the trainee wage until you have passed out,maybe up to a year.
