Have WCR stopped running their railtour program? I know they are doing the Jacobite, Dalesman, Scarborough Spa programs, but not the range of seaside and city trips etc that they used to.

As an aside, do they offer train hire still?

It does seem that they have stopped this year, which does seem sensible considering the congested market place and economic squeeze of disposable incomes. They can probably just tick over happily enough on their bread and butter tourist circuits, although even their Settle & Carlisle Dalesman services have been discounted this year via a promotional email voucher code.

For railtours don’t give up just yet; it may be worth looking out for Santa/Mince Pie Expresses in the winter which can be remarkably good value as they seem to be essentially training/route knowledge trips from the Lancaster/Carnforth area that convey paying passengers to help cover the costs.

Yes, as I say, there are those set, repeated tours but in the past they have done one-offs to here there and everywhere!
