Hello!

I wrote on here a couple of days ago and want to ask another question about pre-emptively sending an apology letter to GWR for using a child ticket. I have hand written a letter basically grovelling and I want to know if it is a good idea to send it before I have received any letter from them? This happened 2 months ago and I am now aware that they have 6 months to decide what to do.

Reports suggest GWR has a backlog of cases at the moment.

Our usual advice is not to send anything until you receive your letter from the train company. Feel free to post a copy of the letter you receive, along with your draft reply (with personal details redacted) and forum members will be happy to proof read it for you.

I fear that letters like this (unrelated to cases that have not yet been uploaded on to systems to allow staff to easily match the letter with a case), despite their obvious good intentions, probably actually serve to make the backlog worse as without case references and ability to match things up someone has got to try and process your letter and that all takes time. And if they do not wish to do that or don't have time, that letter will simply end up in the bin.

But you have not wasted your time as it is good to have started to write up the sort of apology you will need to send.
